Been trying to remove the power steering rack and cannot get it out, it physically will not get low enough and far enough to passenger side to lower it right out.
I have even removed the shift linkage because I will be installing a new shifter and bushings etc, also removed the stabilizer. Exhaust has been disconnected also so what else can I do? Can the pinion/valve housing be removed while under the car or do I have to remove the driver side inner tie rod?
The pinion is catching by about 1/2" as per photo, inner tie rod is also touching metal and passenger side of rack is restricted so what to do?

Guys, thanks for the replies, appreciate it. According to the Steering Gearbox Removal instructions the rack should drop down with the inner tie rods still attached however that's not the case for me.

I removed my manual rack and installed a power one whiteout dropping the subframe. It was tight but it came out the side. Are you converting to non PS?
I just replaced my pinion this weekend. Take vice grips and turn the part that connect to the steering wheel and it will pull the side in giving you room. Or you can remove the inner tie rod. You absolutely do not need to remove the subframe.

Ok will try that, although looks like inner tie rod needs to come out, thanks.
Shouldn't have to remove your inner tie rods to pull out a rack, you just need to pull down, clock it in a direction where you can move the passenger side down and the the driver side. Reverse order for re-installation,

Got the rack off earlier today, had to remove the driver side inner tie rod which was easy enough.
It does make the removal easier but just make sure you completely tighten the inner tie rod. Just never had an issue doing a removal....

Ron, I can assure you there was no option but to remove it, it was physically impossible to get it out otherwise.
Maybe the sub frame is not stock. The previous owner should know.
I'm also curious to know why it didn't come out with the inner tie rod still in place.
