Nice numbers man.. exactly what I am shooting for.. the 500whp club
I bet it's a blast to drive
Making 500whp can be done on many turbos..usually ones that are too large in an attempt to make a peak power number on pump gas.
The point of this particular thread is to show the torque and behaviour of the car without falling for that same dull formula, and keeping it relatively transiently responsive... That's the challenge.
Me too. I'd love to get 400 ft/lb out of it but last tune the peak was 376 @ 6K. Though the tune prior to that it made over 390 ft/lb so I think it could do it.
you might as well get a better camshaft and get the turbocharger to respond better than to do all of that Dark_teg. Like I said, turbos have their limits no matter what fuel you throw at them. They can only compress so much airflow.

The C98 has nothing to do with more power or response. E85 is not available here and C98 comes out about the same as C16 over the long run while offering cooler combustion and a wider safety buffer with the tune. I am still looking at options. I use Torco Accelerator mixed with 91 octane in my Lightning to get to 96 octane. Its pretty much go the Torco route or order race fuel by the drum. Either way 500WHP an xxxWTQ will get me where I need to be. I was already running 11's with a 1.60 60ft with 300whp in a full weight CRX. 500WHP with a responsive TR3030R should get 10's all day, hopefully mid 10's.
This is for 1158.... I normally don't do this, but I think he'll allow this exception.
He was experiencing excessive crankcase pressure, and wanted the MKIII conversion.
The rest of the turbo was in great health, just needed a refit, reseal and update. He burned the compressor cover and backplate to HELL from an exhaust leak and seized two turbine bolts to the housing.
After all of that work with some TLC, Let's just say.... Teaser
Oh Mac you sneaky bugger lol. It looks so awesome and I cannot wait to see it. Even more importantly I cannot wait to get it back on and get some new numbers.
BTW I am fine with you posting those pics in here. I've been in suspense the last few days lol. My wife absolutely loved the pics as well. This one is her favorite:

Well thanks to USPS yesterday and FedEx today I am back in business. Hope to have the turbo back on and everything buttoned up by end of the week. Probably won't be able to get a tune until end of next week.
Not sure the cam gears will go on right away but I'll have them for next time the valve cover has to come off.
As seems to be the case with this car lately have good news and bad news.
Good news. The TR3030R Mark III is a def improvement over the Mark I. Boost comes in earlier, on the order of 500-800 rpm sooner. Latest numbers from this morning's tuning session are 486/391. Tuner still has work to do on higher rpm tables so I think the hp will go up.
We started getting noise from the top side of the engine, by the cam gears. Car seemed fine but with the weird noise we felt stopping and figuring out what was making the noise was the best thing to do. On the way home the car seemed normal but sounded pretty bad. The noise would get worse from time to time and then other times the noise went away. Obviously on the way home I didn't go into boost or get on it.
Once home I pulled the VC and so far can see no issues with the valve train. I did notice the cam gears were digging into the back side of the timing belt cover. I pulled the tbelt and cam gears and started cutting the parts of the cover that were rubbing.
Put the Toda gears on and got them so nothing is rubbing. Now I have to set the tbelt but want to take off the lower cover so that I can make sure everything is lined up and tensions properly. Just got crank pulley bolt off so next up is pulling the crank pulley.

Remember, with TODA Racing, each mark off of the center for is .5 degree adjustment, not 1 degree.
I doubt if you'll ever need to adjust them, though.
