Engine Failure HORROR STORY. Everythings Junk.
The pictures you showed do not depict a Manley lock was used. Although you are saying it, They are not silver by any means. Stock locks are very inconsistent. You could probably do a google search on Honda and dropped valve to see how common it is. Only 2 companies offer a machined lock. Manley and Ferrea. The Manley is the only machined lock that is the same dimension as the factory lock, making it the choice lock for any spring kit besides the Ferrea. The Ferrea is longer, and can ONLY be used with their spring kits. It's my observation that is not common knowledge. With manufacture and installer alike.
We have used GSC in every genre of car we do heads for, and run a machined lock in all of them. Zero failure rate. Infact we haven't had a failure since 2003 when we discovered this nugget of info. That includes 2nd gear to first gear mis-shifts with g-force SFWD cars. They hold with Kung fu grip.

You can use the Ferrea's with other spring kits. I have the 7 deg keepers in my car and i have Supertech springs (Greg didn't have his out yet

Although, it is physically possible to run them, the Ferrea lock will change the installed height for the worse with high lift cams and the lock sets up kinda high for my tastes. It is really made to run with their retainer. It's longer to aid in taking pressure off the tip of the valve.

Ive had these Supertech valve springs/Ferrea Valves and Ferrea keepers in here for 3 years now with no issues.
Interesting, i didn't know. I know that supertech says to run 7 deg keepers with their stuff so i got the Ferrea's. I had a motor drop a valve back in the day, apparently Supertech said it was because i didn't use 7 deg keepers.... It was their valvetrain package. The valve broke right at the tip of the valve...

the degree doesn't change, the length of the lock does between manufactures. You haven't had any issues because you increased the spring pressure, which is not all bad for the power your making, but if you decided to use it with a high lift cam you would learn real quick lol I can't remember where it coil binds at with this combo.

I don't believe that there are any other steel keepers available for b-vtec engines other than std 7 deg. Supertech does offer a 10 deg keeper but they are aluminum
They sell a new stamped lock, but not a machined lock. It's just like the factory style. And, it's the one depicted in the picture I posted of the valve pulling through. We have never seen a dropped valve with the Supertech spring Manley lock combo
Stopped over at Baileys today to pick up the Valvetrain. THEY ARE OEM KEEPERS. Sorry for that confusion. I'll be calling GSC to send it all in. Took a few pictures as well.
The keepers were sinking through the retainer to the bottom.

On a flat surface, the springs weren't straight.

On to the bottom end. The crank looks perfect, other than it being split in half. All the bearings looked brand new. No weird wearing on them.

As for the mains on the block...those are no more.

But on the bright side...I won the award for 'All time worst engine failure' that Bailey and numerous other people have seen. Yay. Go me...F*** my life.
