Default Dr.Pepehn's gas miser B20Z build

Hey guys this is my slow build. I bought a 1991 Civic CX off my brother about 1.5 years ago. He bought the car from Toronto, Ontario and I got it off him and after the bodywork had fallen apart not long after he had bought it. The car has 105,000km on the body right now and came with an automatic DPFI D15. I had started my build when I still had my Turbo EJ1 as I was coming up to the point of buying a house in the country I decided I would sell my EJ1 and build this EF because i still needed a Honda that i wouldn’t care about wrecking on the drive but still had enough power to make a good daily out of.

The oldest picture I have of the car parked next to an old Db2 parts car i had. I stole the B17 for an ice racer project that I later abandoned.

A few pictures of the car in it’s true glory.

My abandoned ice racer project that i had cut a few panels out of for this build.

The car got new rockers and Half quarters for both sides. I also found some Si fenders that were in good shape to put on this car.

That’s about the extent of the bodywork pictures, I wish i had taken some more just to show how far gone this car really was..at this point I had thought we were in too far and was just going to put an ls in my Ej1 instead.

I found someone to paint the car and drove it over the summer last year. It was a pretty fun car to drive but I thought it needed more power as I still planned on selling my Ej.

I had this B20Z 9.6:1 unit sitting around for a while. I traded a set of 255 85 mud terrains for it from my old pickup. It even came this sick jdm spoon valve cover. Yo. (My old B17 beside)
My plan at this point was to just use the CR-V motor with an Integra LS YS1. I had a hard time finding a cable transmission at this point (and kicking myself for not hanging onto my GSR YS1), so I did a little searching around and settled on an 95 Integra S80 tranmission, and had purchased the SUja hydraulic transmission bracket to mount a master cylinder and use the hydraulic setup. I still had to find a set of hydraulic pedals as the car was originally automatic. The suja1 setup is pretty nice and you can get the line from them as well.

The D15 coming out

Starting the wiring for the obd0 dpfi to obd1 mpfi

I did the wiring and decided it looked a little too scabby, I cleaned it up a bit and got rid of the red garbage.

Got some other goodies as well at this point, stage 1 clutchmasters and an 11lb flywheel as well as a CTR n1 crank pulley, and a PLM RMf narrow knockoff with testpipe, and a ching chong meow 3” intake.

The B20 fits, and it’s in..but the header doesn’t. Kind of seen that coming from what I’ve heard about any kind of header on these cars. I hacked/cut/scabbed the front crossmember, bashed in the innards where the alternator sits and all was well.

I used the innovative swap linkages and also wired in a 95 Integra LS cluster. I did this because I am now running on OBD1, and wanted to use the VSS.

Picked up some DC integra struts with egay struts. I’ll replace them eventually with some ground controls and koni yellows with extended top hats later this summer im thinking. It’s also sitting on some 99 Civic Si-R wheels that i bought a few years ago. 195 55 15’s. I will be switching to 165 60 15 when these wear out for the gas mising win.

I split a buddy of mine half way for this 91 Si. I just wanted the Interior out of it to get rid of the blue interior that was in mine. We turned this car into an ice racer a month ago.

His daily 90 CX and mine.

Just a couple of the pictures I have, the swap is done now I just have to put the carpet back in. I took out the dash mat at the same time and dry iced the sound deadening. I also removed the back seats and a few more things like the spare and what not. I think with everything I have taken out the car should be 19xx lbs.

I found out about this Si-R in a local newspaper classifieds for $300. I seem to have all the luck picking up somewhat rare Hondas around here, nobody else seems to want them. This car has 121,000 kilometers. The front rad support was crushed all the way into the header.

Pulled the motor out from the bottom of the car, worked pretty well.

Off to take this pile for scrap and get my $160. $140 B16 & S4C’s for the win.

Thats about the extent of my build right now, Im currently in trade school in Toronto and will be continuing with this build when I’m back in a month. I have a few plans now, and I’d like to get this car into the 13s at a drag event later this summer. I have a TD05HRA-16g6-9.8T at home also but I haven’t decided if it will end up on the car or not. If it does it will be a very mild setup, I think 240-260whp should be plenty enough for a fun daily driver and should spool very quick with the twin scroll on a S4C'd B20Z. Tell me what you think of what I’ve done to the car so far. Thanks.

Nice body work. I would have taken the brakes and a lot more off the sir lol .You never got tempted to do a b20 vtec before boost?

Is this your DD as well? Koni yellow are harsh around where i am. I got kyb agx and eibochs and that gets annoying on setting 1 lol. Different storie if its a track car.

In for updates as you go to track events ect.

The bodywork came out ..ok it was fixed fairly fast and I think that's where the problem lies. I am really bugged by how the passenger quarter came out. If you look a little closer you'll see there is quite the gap. It looks shitty, but at the same time it is just a gas miser.. I'm just going to do my best to forget about it lol. Everything else turned out fairly well though.

I haven't driven the car since I did the swap I have to tie up a few loose ends like running the clutch line, electric fan, putting the rest of interior back in and getting a safety.
I have considered the b20vtec the only thing kind of stopping me is the thinking that the 9.8 housing on the evo turbo running out of steam up top. I know I'll be fairly close to doing so with the b16. I am also considering doing a b20vtec and not even bothering with boost at all but time will tell. We will see how inspired the all motor non vtec b20 gets me and we'll go from there. This isn't my daily I have a 2006 f150 but I work construction and am out of town quite a bit for work. I plan on finally finishing the civic and hoping to drive each vehicle 50/50 kind of thing.
Thanks for your interest
