$The Value Thread$ What's It Worth? Should I Buy? What's the Cost?
Unless you're VERY comfortable around a welder, and already have a garage full of tools at your disposal, I would definitely find a replacement. 92-00 base model Civics can be found for less than $3000.
Well, you have two options. Scrap the car, and go buy a running vehicle. No work, no problems, no "well ****, it still doesn't work". Second option, buy a front clip for half the cost of a replacement car (if not less), buy a new SRS system, buy the tools to attach the front clip (good welding machine, hand tools, and engine tools), then spend 20 hours if you're GOOD with those tools to get the car running again. Then spend more time getting it to run correctly. Money wise, you'll probably spend just as much as you would getting a whole, running, replacement car. Time wise, you'll be tempted multiple times to push your car over a cliff.

Thanks for the reality check. Guess I need to hop back on Craigslist and start shopping.
^ Cut your losses and move on. HOWEVER, consider removing the fuel-saving HX-specific parts from the car and installing them on another 96-00. Really, the only thing special about the HX was its cool fuel-econ features. Since only the body was damaged, pull out the motor and some various components (some wiring, the special rims). If you want to learn some basic car mechanics, without going so far as buying a welder, then that is an option. You can also just look around for a base model DX without paying a premium for an HX since you have all those parts already. It also opens up the option for just buying a shell, which can be had for *really* cheap, usually.

I'm going to try and buy this come Tuesday - talked to a buddy of mine and he said he'll help me swap the head out of my wrecked one into this one just in case the valves are bent.
Also, I'll be sure to salvage as much off of my other one as possible. The tires on the wrecked one are less than a month old, and the extra rims will be nice to have around.
Here's to hoping I get it! I'm third in line to check it out.
Ack! For some reason the HUGE post I just submitted didn't go through so trying again! I'm a first-time Honda owner and have had headaches with a few AWFUL Saturn's in the past! I have a 93 Civic LX that I've been urged to get rid of and get something else/newer. Less than 160k miles on it, all original, bought it last June. Cosmetically about 7.5/10 overall. Shifts smoothly (auto), starts up rough like it's not getting enough gas. Just replaced fuel filter, fuel pump and the filter that goes with that, and spark plugs last week. Still starts up rough like it's choking. The bf says the exhaust smells like it's burning oil. When I put in new plugs the 3rd to the left spark plug had oil all the way up to the white top of the old spark plugs but hasn't had any in it since the new plugs were installed. Sometimes when it starts up it has a quick chirp or a few seconds of screeching which goes away and feels like it's a slipping belt maybe? As a female I don't trust many shops in town to look at it (bad experiences with them in the past and I'm not even a pain in the butt about anything!) so I may just ride it out. So... should I look into getting rid of 'er or maybe just get 'er checked out? Thank you!
Hey new to the forums and a first time honda owner. About 2 weeks ago I took the plunge and was wondering if I might have paid to much for a 93 honda del sol. Here is a list of mods and cons as well as some pics.
Mods
B16a3 swap (50k miles)
GSR Tranny (50k miles)
Magnaflow exhaust
Skunk2 short shifter
Stage 1 clutch
Full NRG removable steering wheel with locking hub
Very well hidden kill switch
Cons
Lowered with chopped springs (just ordered full BWR coilovers to fix this problem)
Front bumper has been backed into (minor crack and a new bumper should be to expensive)
Broken antenna so I can't get radio stations (not a big deal at all)
Super bald front tires (I was an idiot and super excited to get it and didn't check)
Front half is black due to kid replacing fenders and hoods because of dents from previous owner.
I paid 3900 for this car and so far she runs GREAT! Pulls strong through all gears and no grinding (except for my occasional crappy shifts)

The initial fun of test driving this car could've fooled you into paying that much. In hindsight you'll see that you could have payed much less in that condition. BTW, the fenders and bumper were replaced because that car has suffered front end damage.
^ Yep. Take the fenders off and look for frame damage.
That car is probably $2000 around where I live. Heck, damaged RHDs (EG6, EG2) are asking in the 2K - 3K range in Canada - and probably selling for less.

Will do and will get back to you on what i find. haha reading this sure hurts though, probably could have saved alot of $$$ if i would have waited.
i found a 97 civic ex 5spd locally and wanted to know you guys opinion.
has shitty interior
power steering leak
airbags look cracked - deployed or maybe cracked from heat?
engine still runs good 153k miles on it
body and paint are fair.
doesnt seem to be frame damage
modded with lowering springs, dc header, exhaust, stage 2 clutch
its going for $1500.
my first though was go for it, cheap project. What do you all think?

I'm looking at a car for my sister (she doesn't drive stick). It just passed smog (but failed a week before that according to BAR website). KBB is $4400-5500, and the guy is asking $6200... Will have to talk him down, maybe offer $4500 and pay up to $5000-$5500?
Any comments/concerns/go/no-go?

Find out the details of the accident it was in. Look for all service records. Timing belt and so on. $6k is an insane price for that car. If all checks out $4000 would be TOPS.
Absolutely zero chance I would pay anything past $4500 for that car. I bought my 6G with 106k, in the exact same condition, for $3500.
Thanks guys. Wasn't sure if the factory aero stuff was worth anything (I remember that the spoiler option alone was like $1000 extra when new!)
Do all EX's have the lip kit? Or was that also an accessory?
Where do you guys see the front end damage anyway? Is it the extra gap at the bumper? I do see the missing clip on the grill, and some white spray on the distributor as well. (edit: Oh, also the license plate, lol)
Was too busy to post all the pics while I was at work, but I'm home now so here are the rest:

I can see anything wrong with the front bumper other than one clip is missing but the back bumper looks lighter than the rest of the body.
Been out of the game for a little while.. What do you guys think a 98 civic optional lip kit would be worth? Not in perfect condition but OK. If you don't know which one I mean google it.. looks just like the vti lips. I know the value use to be pretty high on them but not sure if it's still about the same. Thanks for the help!
