Hi there. Just wanted to get some other heads on this to make sure I'm buying the right part before I pull the trigger and spend $150 getting these door moldings.

The rubber seal enveloping the driver's side window is old and worn out and the rubber sticks to the window and the molding gets yanked down when I roll the window down. Since I'm going to replace both the driver's and passenger's windows I just wanted to be sure that Illus. 1 and 3 are what I need. And do I need the Illus. 9 clip also? Or can I reuse my current one?

 

The clip should be metal and not need to be replaced.. however, there is a felt strip between the rubber flap and the window that has probably worn down smooth and causing the sticking. I would pull it out and inspect it first... Also, 1 and 3 are what you need, but if you purchase the rubber molding, the clip comes with it... the "9" is only if you need it seperately. We have this in stock at my dealership and i pulled it to look. it comes with the clip for sure.

 

Okay great. And I think your assessment is correct, that the felt has worn smooth and the adhesive holding it on is what is gunking up my window. I had to roll the window down for autocross last weekend since I can't see out of it very well. Hard to look ahead when your window is covered in grease.

The crappy part is that I'm going to have to get my windows re-tinted. My tint is showing it's age, so not a big deal, but the gunk left on the window is nearly impossible to remove. Might as well get my tint done once I replace the moldings.

They just pop in and out, correct? A buddy of mine was speculating that they might be riveted to the door. But he drives an EF

Edit: It's only $133 after shipping and handling. Bout the same cost from your dealer I presume?

 

I recently had the same problem. What you need to replace may actually be the door run channel (parts 6 or 11 in diagram).

 

When I roll the window down I can see the middle of the window catching on the bottom seal and yanking the bottom molding down with it. It sticks to the window and flips down dragging the whole molding over.

 

Yeah, that's the inner weather strip (part 3). I've had to replace that as well.



I think the part in your diagram in the first post is actually the outer door molding.

 

So far we've got the inner, outer and channel molding. Figuring out which one is messed up should be easy. Then it's just a matter of ordering the correct part.

BTW: The outer moldings 1 & 3 in the very first picture come with the new #9 clips. Whenever a line is shown connecting multiple part numbers like that, they are being sold as an assembly on the number farthest out (in this case #1 & 3).

 

Yeah that makes sense. The number is included in the diagram markings. hyperblu cleared that up

Part 3 how does that come off? is it attached to the inner door panel?

Mine is messed up too, there is gunk getting on my window.

 

#3 has little "prongs" that attatch it to the door pannel.

The pannel has slots in, the prongs go threw, and you simply bend the prongs over to hold them on.

 

I think I rem, there a lot of the prongs right?

To take off the old one you bend the prongs straight and pull of right?

Is there a clip, the pic shows a clip too?

 

yes, you bend them straight, and simply pull the peice. There are quite a few of the little guys on there.

I didn't notice a clip on mine.

 

Does anyone have water leaking in their door from a bad belt molding? I went through a carwash and I would watch and hear water draining into my door?
