Single Turbo G35 Coupe Build (Brilliant Silver content inside)
I picked up a couple of additional sensors from them to help with the tuning too, the oil pressure sensor and the exhaust back pressure sensor. I'll be getting the Version 1 Can display too, then they can really dial in the traction control.
Not sure if I will switch to ProEFI. Their pretty damn expensive. The M3 Pro128 ECU - 7 Bar Map Sensor - 150 PSI Fuel Pressure Sensor - 02 Sensor Kit - EMS Harness - Boost Control Solenoid - w/ CAN Cable is about $4,000.
I though it was cheaper. I might as well save that $4k for a new car, or use if for mods on my other car.
(I want what Rguy has)

IMO there’s not a lot of power to be made Naturally Aspirated on these engines (VQ35DE, VQ35DE Rev-Up Engines) and the dollar to HP ratio is ridiculous; some guys will spend $10-15k just to make 300 – 350 whp all motor. The VQ35HR and VQ37 are better for all motor; they’ll make 300whp with bolt-on modifications… still though, forced induction is the way to go on these cars.
Yeah that’s a huge chunk of change
… I got my ProEFI system for $2k, but I went with the Pro48 computer, I also got the 52mm CAN gauge, 5 bar map sensor, fuel pressure sensor, wideband O2 sensor, and harness. But I don’t think the 48 is an option for M guys…

If it was 2k I would upgrade, but $4k is a too much.
I already spent soo much money building this.
*Food for your thoughts

I have a built motor!
…and Kev… I need you to edit your post and remove your attachment/picture… don’t try and outshine me in my own build thread…

FML! Just took 2 steps forward and 1 step back...
The CHRA on my Garrett GT35R (which I purchased new 6k miles ago...) may need to be replaced!

Awww, Kev u actually edited your post!

Anyone have any idea what may have caused spark plug #2 (the plug with the obvious damage on the right side...) to end up like this?
Yeah, everything’s perfectly fine on the intake side …so, I’m thinking a piston fragment caused the damage… I’m also thinking that the engine failure that prompted this build may not have been a bent rod or spun rod bearing...
I always had a feeling that my car was running too lean (I first noticed it when it was retuned a month before the engine failure). Here’s the last dyno of my car (my car is in Blue, the Red is my brother’s car that had an almost identical setup to mine):

I'm going to look at 2007+ 350Zs, 2005+ G35s, and Altima SE V6 coupes with the 6-speed. I do like the M35, but I want something smaller and sportier.
Driving my GF's FX35 has me hooked on that exhuast note. I used to not like it very much, but it has really grown on me and with the way the 3.5L pulls in the FX w/ a 5-speed auto, I think I would be more than satisfied with the engine in a car weighing over 1000lbs less.

Awesome! I highly recommend the 2007+ 350Z… HR engine is awesome if you’re looking to keep it stock or not go turbo/supercharger… I’m still partial to G’s though…
How big of a difference do you think it would be in terms of accelleration between an HR 350Z and a non-HR 2005-2007 G35 Coupe? I really like the extra midrange torque the HR has (at least on paper), but I also would like the back seats and nicer interior of the G35 over the 350Z.
I'm considering the Altima 2.5 SE primarily becuase I could get a newer model for the same price as the other are at a few years older.
I wonder how they lease....
An HR 350Z is probably going to be about half a second quicker down the quarter mile versus a G35 Coupe… so, it should be pretty noticeably IMO. In stock trim a G35 Coupe should finish the 1/4 mile in 14.0-13.9 on average… Most HR’s will go mid 13’s.
On a side note… when we had a local Z/G dyno day, my car with intake, exhaust, and tune made 10+ whp over an HR 350Z all the way to about 6k RPM, it was only after that point the HR made more power… and against a stock 370Z I was even in power till about 6k RPM again.

What would be a good source to research reliability. I know the earlier Z's had tire wear issues and some burned oil, is there anything else in particular to be aware of? Problem areas with the cars, if you will?
I'm really looking for something that will be extremely reliable. I understand something like a Z will require a bit more care than a civic, but I do not want to be under the car every other weekend.

I would avoid 6-speed 2005 – 2007 G35’s and 2006 350Z’s if you can… they have had oil consumption issues and unless there’s documentation that shows the engine has been replaced under warranty it’s a bit of a gamble… an unnecessary one too as you can find several G35 Coupes from 2003 – 2004 that are still in great condition and often with low mileage too, also 2003 – 2004 were the only years you could get Brembo brakes…
But that’s really the only issue with these cars… every Z/G I’ve come across has had the tire/suspension recall, there were some transmission issues with some of the early cars (2003) but most of those were replaced under warranty too. IMO, these cars are extremely reliable, outside of standard maintenance I haven’t had to replace a single thing and I’m on the original 6-speed too… the car had just over 90k miles before I boosted it, bought it with 60k… before that my bro-in-law owned it since 2003.
My350z.com is a good forum too, lots of information on that site.

But the interior is so much nicer on the 2005+ G35! I would also like a newer car than 2003-2004, though if mileage was super low I would consider one. Are the Brembo brakes a direct bolt-on to the 05-07 G35's, and if so is it a worthwhile upgrade?
Thanks for the website.

I have no idea how or why but I'm hoping Garrett will exchange the cartridge for a new piece (roughly a $400 exchange) since it really can't be rebuilt any other way.
