D15z1 turbo how much psi for dd?
i was thinking on boosting my d15z1 motor just 4 fun. also im still new and learning about. looking to get me a ebay ram turbo from a neighbor. i think its t3 t4, what u guys recommenced psi for the motor. also the motor is 200,000 miles plus. will it still run how long will it last. are ebay turbos reliable how long will it last. i have a clutch kit and a si trans on the side.
its not the PSI its the turbo the motor how its holding up. a Greddy turbo running 10psi will run more horsepower or less than a Ebay turbo running 10psi
PSI means nothing. It's horsepower that matters.
Do it right or do it twice. Take a chance on Ebay stuff if you want to.
Do a compression test on that engine before you do anything. I don't think I'd be comfortable boosting anything with that many miles on it.
You can't use a B-series transmission on a D-series engine without an adapter.

ok i was thinking the same but if the compression is still good will it be okay to boost it. assuming its a 200K plus. For the psi how much estimate will it be safe for a eBay t3 t4 turbo. and for the si trans i got the d series si trans.

I agree i would rebuild the motor and boost the z6 freshly and rebuilt
Also i think he was talking about the 92-95 Si Hatch tranny i may be wrong
also all i have to say and most people on here will tell you You get what you pay for...
what is the compression at i doubt that its good in that motor unless its rebuilt...
you should look up more about Turbos/PSI/Horsepower and the Boosting a motor

what if i boost it first before rebuilding it just for hell of it. it stock now but later put a d16z6 head on. w/the stock bottom end low comp. for the stock d15z1 what would be safe for a ebay t3t4 turbo.
again, its not about psi. its about how much horse power the engine can handle regardless of what psi the turbo puts out
and alot of people would suggest that stock d-series engines are safe until about 200 whp
that safety line may be lower if you have high mileage or problems with the oil system

PSI means nothing. Get past that and stop listening to all these dumbasses that keep telling you "xx PSI should be safe". If you ever read anywhere that someone says that you should instantly know that they don't know ****.
Fuel and airflow (CFM) to get you to a desired horsepower, and a good tune to make it all work flawlessly is what gets you to your goal. PSI is a byproduct.
200-220 horsepower is about all I'd try to push through a stock block. 180 would be safer unless you plan on building the block then the sky's the limit.

ok i was thinking to get at least less than 200whp for now. but will my motor be safe like 4-5psi on ebay t3t4 turbo. w/proper tuning how much hp can i get. i just want something better than stock for now
for the last time (and i hope you understand it this time)
your psi will have NOTHING to do with how much horse power you make
why?
because each turbo flows differently at different rpms
so psi is indeed a byproduct of what turbo you have, and what HP your engine puts out

o okay then, so the psi doesn't mater w/ my d15z1 so as long as said 200hp or so limit ill be somewhat good. would it be good to have a smaller turbo for it.
dude if you cannot grasp simple concepts like this don't buy the turbo leave ur car stock 200k miles is a lot of miles and your motor will last maybe a couple months
Argh. You are getting an Ebay ramhorn manifold and a turbo from your neighbor. Did he ever run it? If so I don't understand why you aren't asking him how it performed. If it wasn't at the very least you can ask him what his plans for it was. You can get all your questions answered from him.
Then ask him him what engine management he planned on running. What injectors? Wastegate? Blow off valve? Etc. You can't just smack a turbo on an engine and expect it to work. Start doing some research.
Also there is no such thing as a D-series SI transmission.

why do you need turbo for daily driving ? t3/t4 is vague be specific.. just increase/decrease psi when you get tuned to reach your 200whp goal. we cant guess horsepower numbers and we cant tell you if your motor will hold or blow just go with it or save up and do it right research and make sure you have an idea of what you want and what you need. vx motors are limited platform not really good for "performance intended motors". if its a ebay "ram horn" dont bother that thing will be more trouble than its worth. get a cast iron manifold less proned to cracking
I think he just wants a BOV sound lol. you don't just put a turbo kit ebay or not on a stock motor. especially on a 200k plus motor. If you really want more power at this point its more beneficial to just drop a dohc in there and you will notice more umphhh....just my 2 cents. 2 cents is all I got.
I boosted my daily. Wanted the equivalent power I had in my Prelude but with better gas mileage. What's wrong with a boosted daily?
my neighbor said he just bought it and now don't have any money for his car. he is moving in a week. the turbo kit is a ram horn turbo kit., the ram horn exhaust manifold was painted high temp. paint, turbo timer, inter-cooler piping, waste gate and a basic kit. he don't want it anymore. also a greddy type s bov he said the whole kit is for $150.00 bucks not yet used.
if i buy it what other mods do i need. how much overall will a whole piece kit go together. what do i need.... and do i need oil lines etc weld something. whats the deal with the oil filter sandwich plate is easier to use that? adjustable cam gear, fuel pressure reg. and i heard i need something like a hondata map sensor etc. do i need to change my ecu.

I wrote a big response to but chucked it. Click the link in my sig to get an idea of what you will need to have a complete kit and how it goes on.
MAKE SURE you don't mess around with the tune. Get a good one and you should not have to worry.
Me? I wouldn't boost that engine at all.

if I plan to turbo it on the stock motor and just street tune can I use a vafc hack ive already have it on and also a aem airfuel ratio gauge to hook up.and for the injectors ive heard the stock vx 190 cc if im not mistaken. I also have a aem fuel regulator adjustable.
