Default Is it worth taking off power steering?

OK, so i took off power steering pulley, belt, and reservoir, and no longer have power steering. i took it off because i thought it would be fun driving. It is indeed fun but im worried about my rack and pinion getting messed up, since i dit not install a manual rack. So is it worth taking off the power steering on a pretty much stock car. Do people drive fast cars with power steering still on.

People remove PS when they turbo ALL THE TIME. No worries. It's like half a ton car.

No, my whole comment was a don't worry. Unless you liked the little bit of help it was, don't bother. People remove them for turbos and it's a helluva light car. Don't worry.

If you like the way it drives without ps then i guess that makes it worth it.

If you like it, I guess it's worth it. I really don't know why so many people remove power steering though.

I've got a somewhat quick car, and I kept my power steering. Lots of people do. It takes too much see-sawing to get out of my garage for me to ever have a manual steering car. At regular speeds, there's not much of a difference between power/nonpower steering.

What I'm saying is that if you like it that way, keep it that way.

If u have a power steering rack then loop it with a hose or swap it for a manual rack. I DD my gsr with a manual rack. Tight parking is somewhat a pain, but u get used to it. I hate pwer steering now when I drive some elses car, it feels "sloppy" to me. Its all personal prederence tho.

If your car came factory with PS..keep it, unless your driving a 10sec honda, then dump it.

As others have said, its really up to you. You could have just taken the belt off for awhile to see if you liked driving without P/S and if you didn't. You could have just put the belt back on.

I took my P/S out years ago and have never looked back. I looped the rack with S.S Hose so its full of P/S Fluid. I have had no problems. Most parking lots such as walmart I don't have any problems..really tight parking lots kinda suck but I don't have to deal with that much.

And as another member said, when I drive a P/S equipped car nowdays..it feels sloppy..or jerky..steering responds to fast. I seem to get more feedback out of the road without it.

My girl has drove my car without P/S and she didn't bitch or whine either.

IMO keep it unless your car is going to be used only at the track. I wish my hatch came with PS.

as far as non-power steering, i had a cx for 10 years that had a manual rack. it was fine. but that was with a rack meant for NO assistance.

that said, if i had PS, i'd never remove it unless i absolutely had to, and if that was the case, a manual rack would be going in the car pronto.

on a stock car or anything non-turbo, i'd just leave it alone.

I'd prefer PS but I've driven cars without it and it was fine.

When I swapped my hatch I removed the AC and PS. I did the PS the RIGHT WAY. Meaning swapping out the entire subframe and rack for the manual counter parts(had a donor car). Plus I have a DX hatch that ways nothing almost lol, along with a smaller steering wheel and I love the way it feels (even with 205/50/15s).

you are absolutely fine, if it really bothers you worrying about the rack, you can install a secondary resevoir that will keep an amount of fluid in the rack, i've ran them both ways for quite some time without an issue however.

I removed the P/S from my 99 EX and think it is great. However, as everyone has stated, it really is a personal opinion if you like it or not.

Taking the belt off just to feel what it is like will definitely not help. When just taking the belt off, there is P/S fluid in the rack that you are fighting against, making it harder.

When the P/S was removed from my car, I drained everything out, filled it up with a little synthetic oil, looped the lines with a T fitting and have a hose coming up the firewall behind the brake lines as a breather.

Yes, parking (parallel) is a b!tch, but if the car is moving the littlest bit, you will not have a problem. I drove my brothers 98 LX recently with P/S, and thought it was "sloppy" and annoying.

I agree, hondas with p/s just feel weird to me now.

on the plus side parking and driving without p/s will help you man up and not be scrawny lol
