Okay, I'm very new to the Honda world. I'd like to add a rear swaybar to my car. There is no stock bar, and AllData doesn't even have an installation guide (at least not that I could find).

So if I'm taking a stock '97 Civic and wanting to add a rear swaybar (either a used stock or aftermarket), what do I need?

There very recently have been several topics - in depth - on this in this subforum, containing info, tips and links.

I suggest you read all of them first and then ask any remaining questions.

All the necessary info has been posted here allready, spread out in different topics.

And use the 'Search'.

Could you please direct me to some of these articles? I did use the "Search" and didn't find anything that answered my specific question, at least not in terms that were easily understandable by someone who has no experience working on a Civic. That was why I made a thread.

Look, my point was that you made it sound like you had SPECIFIC helpful articles in mind. I know how to use the search function. I can get myself a list of results to filter through. If you have one of the specific "several topics - in depth - on this in this subforum, containing info, tips and links" you mentioned, please direct me to THOSE.

Otherwise, the article you linked me to is pretty much exactly what I was looking for. So I'm pretty good at this point.

Get your self a stock 13mm or what ever sway bar noithing more then 18mm if you dont plan on useing a brace,

Next get the hardware for 99-00 si, d bracket, and the mount fromt that to the subframe, And the proper bushing for the sway bar.
Now run to ace or whever and get 4 10mm bolts and 3 stop nuts. You will also need bolts for the dracket to the mount, not sure on size right this second but i belive they are 8mm

The mount that goes to the subframe and bolt to d bracket needs to be slightly drilled out to fit 10mm bolt,

When i did mine i chose to unbolt the lca from knucle and shock and loosing where it goes into subframe, this will allow it swing down, Makes it a lot easier to get bolts and nuts in.
Mount bracket. Grab the sway bar,brackets, bushings and bolt up.
Put lca back in.

get some endlinks i chose blox adjustables.
Bolt to sway bar and lca tighen up, put wheels back on and go...

I couldnt find any diys or anything. so **** it ill make one. Hopefully will get it posted up tonight.

You can fabricate one (ASR style) yourself.

Rear subframe is welded, you gonna take that off?

haha i meant the rear sway bar, no way in hell im screwing with the sub frame, thats why i said id make a diy, its all gotta come off anyways.

 

I used Rustseal for my lca's, going to do the 15mm also.

Yea better then droping 179, if you have the tools and know how, but for a 13mm bar (Stock SI) noithing is needed, i bolted mine up and its just fine.

Does a lx have a front sway bar stock?? Im not sure if is the same as dx's with no sb's stock.

Yeah, I just wish I could find a used SI bar. I really don't want to pay full price to Honda. I didn't realize so few models had the RSB. My last few imports had communities full of cheap used RSBs. But a search of eBay just turns up aftermarket options. Hopefully I'll find something here once I'm a full member.

In the future, I may go for a subframe brace and bigger bar. But for now, I think a stock bar will be a major upgrade over nothing...

 

if you go to a junk yard you can usualy find an ex with the front sway and parts still installed thats what i did cost me like 50 bucks for everything just be smart about it and keep everything connected or they will charge you for every part.

 

I belive they have the ex/hx 22mm front, check hondapartsunlimited.com
they have si rear bar for like 63 buck new.

the only 96-00 that had rear bar is SI.

 

I'll double check when I do my front brakes, but I'm pretty sure my LX has a front bar. And knowing the previous owner, it wouldn't be aftermarket.

Thanks for the tip. I may grab the rear bar from there, as that's a damn good price.

 

yes they have great prices, sill need to remember shipping, it could be a bit for a sway bar.
