300whp+ IPS k24a on 93 octane : Making the impossible possible.
Can't wait till tomorrow. I want to see some good numbers. Remember what we talked about today. Give me a call if you have any questions.
had a series of issues... could not do a full tune.. electrical, grounding issues... still managed to get 291whp on 93 octane but has a lot more left in it..
Will update when I hit the dyno gain with everything fixed..not sure when this is going to be

here's a graph..
thinks to consider before looking at shitty graph..

-after 8000 RPM voltage drops to 10.8
-no low cam tuning
-vtec at 3000 RPM
-throttle only pulling at 85%
only did a few pulls and quit after we realised we need more time to get everything right...

Good work Nikos!
ok, I had some time to look over my data...
Here;s what happened and why these dyno runs are useless and I have to dyno again with a freshmap.
Because my battery was dead, I used a charge machine to do the first runs for low cam and voltage was fine..
then the charge machine got disconnected and I kept going but I didn;tnotice that voltage dropped due to yes... a bad alternator....
so all ignition I was adding and fuel that was getting set is junk now...
I am really happy it made that much with a bad alternator..I think my new goal is 320-330 fully tuned..
We will know soon, I am putting a spare alternator on tonight..

its been awhile since we seen an update, good numbers so far. hows every thing with the new born? (i sound like if i talk to you on the phone lol)
Thank you for your continued interest.
I have learned a great deal from this motor. Trying to make a lot of power out of pump gas is not as easy as I originally thought. The motor already made 300whp SAE as my original goal was but something was not right.
For some weird reason, VTEC would be felt on the street and on the dyno, the VTEC sensor was on… but it felt like the car was not going on vtec…
To make things even worse, since the motor is pretty strong, and the KXV low cam is bigger than a k20a high cam lobe, I was having trouble determining if VTEC is coming on or not on the street…
I know it sounds silly but when you are making 280 on the low cam, open header on the street, car is fast no matter how you see it and loud.
One big mistake that I did was I didn’t have an oil pressure gauge to mechanically verify and monitor oil pressure…
The first dyno sessions the car was tuned to run on the low cam and be streetable.. problems along the way with broken belts , low voltage, bad hondata Kpro manager version that disabled vtec…
Its always the little things that keep you busy… Also due to my family situation, I can only spend a few hours at night after my kids go to bed on the dyno.. The people who own the dyno, are SUPER COOL, allowing me to use it after 8 PM til midnight.
So after several runs, I noticed a dent on the oil pan and thought that maybe the oil pickup might be blocked when the car is not moving on the highway but on the dyno causing momentum to feed the pump with oil..
TO my surprise, when I took the oil pan off, I could clearly see that there was contact between the s2000 oil pump pickup mouth and the pan, (steel pan, aluminum pan doesn’t clear s2000 pump) so I thought I had found the problem…
But once again the car seemed to hit VTEC on the street but not on the dyno… Maybe it was trying to engage vtec and failing to do so but the ECU was getting commands to turn the HIGH CAM when in fact it was on the low cam…
So finally, I disabled VTEC and did a run.. and yes.. power was the same as the “vtec run” around 285whp sae peaking at 8000 RPM so something was up..
So I took the head apart, inspected cams, rockerts, just to be safe I installed new rockers, Lost motion springs and put it back together… This time around I installed a really nice mechanical pressure gauge..
Now when I hit vtec on the street, I see the PSI droppinig for a split second form 90 psi to 85 back to 90 psi… Got to love the sound when I turn the car off, the gauge makes…
Ok, so now that I can verify that VTEC is working for sure, I have to go back to the dyno and see what is up.. Car feels faster on the road but like I said, after 275+ on the street it is hard to tell what is going on and everytime I go WOT its always a chance I am taking to get a big ticket,.., The 3 inch exhaust is not helping much.. I think it is making matters worse as far as sound.. I had a guy come to my house and tell me that his wife is sick and wakes up when I start my car… and I live in the country where houses are spaced out.. ahaha
Ok, now this ordeal is just part of the story..
my daughters surgery has been pushed ahead of schedule so we waiting for an opening anytime to go ahead with open heart surgery..
So my mental state right now is not the best... I still try to get this over with but I also have 5 other motors I need to finish along with a full time job, a family and so many other things that most of us have to deal with everyday.
I am actually suprised I had the motivation to take the cams out and rockers with the engine in the car overnight... stayed up till 4 am for a few night and went to work the next day

mmmm 32 valves of goodness with a whipple. Im ford head too
. Thats some wacky stuff bout the VTEC. And my thoughts and prayers to your daughter and family through all of this
