Default rules to online purchasing

rules to online purchasing
1. always get an address
2. always get a telephone number
3. always talk to them online or on the phone
4. always talk to them online or on the phone
5. if they ever hesitate, or make excuses, or don't do anything you ask, don't do buisness with them... no matter how good the deal is
6. never use paypal on stuff over something you can easily afford to lose because paypal has no way of gettting your money back once its lost. only thing they can do is freezed their own accounts so the user can't get money, or retreive money out of the users acct, but most thiefs are smart enough to withdraw and close accts and starts others, and change emails
7. always ask for escrow on stuff over something you can't afford to lose
8. never be trusting
9. never be trusting
10. never be trusting

if anyone has anything else to add please do, these aren't anything i got somewhere else. these are from my personal experience of buying a turbo kit through the net, paying through paypal for 1000 and getting screwed the bad way...

escrow = tradenable.com

i always use this on big buys, works very well. too many crooks are targeting these forums as a way to make easy cash. getting ripped off is totally avoidable.

paypal is a waste of time, if you trust the seller use a money order and save $$$, if not use an online escrow service, it costs the same as paypal but 100% protects you.

i always use post office money orders. I heard theyre trackable to what bank account they were deposited at. from there, let the local cops take care of it.

that makes sense, i never thought of that...but how about shipping COD, that should protect both the buyer and seller, you just have to get the seller to agree to wait a little while for his money.

i personally like COD, it protects both the buyer and the seller...buyer for obvious reasons...

with COD...ups doesnt take cash anymore, but the buyer can request that only certified funds be used...ex, MO, cashier's checks, and certified checks, this is a win win situation and i only pay for things this way, unless i really know the person...

COD is good for the buyer, but do they let you look in the package? what if its a bunch of rocks? also, its hard to convince the seller to do cod since the buyer can flake and then the seller would have lost some money and not sold his product.

COD doesn't protect seller if buyer refuses package. If shipping cost was high, there's no way for him to recover that amount. Also, buyer can't look inside package before he pays delivery person. Worst part about COD is that delivery company doesn't see it as priority to transmit payment to seller in timely manner. It took UPS more than 1 month to finally get me my money. They also have no way of tracking where funds are.

Not only can the seller lose out on shipping, you are able to cancel some money orders before they get back to the seller.

dlplayboy on this board wanted me to COD overnight (....) a pair of 98-01 headlights to him for 275 (which was funny), claiming he can get it for this deal from someone else who's taking "a little too long".

it will cost 124 dollars to overnight COD it.

hey i have a question about escrow. what if the buyer decides he doesn't want the product after he gets it, and it has nothing to do with product defects? how does it work? as i have a customer requesting escrow, and want to make sure i'm safe as well.

Escrow actually gives you a preset amount of time (usually three days) to inspect the item and make sure it is what was agreed on. No other form of payment gives you this option.

....yeah riceboyhater makes a good point, and he should also practice what he preaches. He (riceboyhater) was supposed to sell me a ZC valve cover about a week ago but he e-mailed me and said he got a better offer and if I didn't want to match the offer I was out of luck. I "called" him on his new offer and got an e-mail saying that the other guy backed out and that he would now sell it to me higher than the price he had quoted in his "for sale offer." Hey I needed the valve cover so I agreed, but have not heard from him since.......actions speak louder than words.

lol, what?
ok answer me this guys... would you sell to a person asking you to sell it to them for 35 dollars or someone that wants it for 20 dollars? hrmm i don't think any of you would take the lower offer, and btw.... i didn't rip anybody off, i told you what was going on, i never promised you or anyone anything. i am going to sell the entire motor to someone, and he needs the valve cover, so id rather sell all of it to him instead of a whiny little biatch that comes on webboards to say stuff behind my back

good luck finding a valve cover buddy
and leave me alone

rocky

....first I just wanted to point out that people should take a look at who they take advice from when buying stuff over the net i.e. you, next: you quoted $20 in your ad this is not what I offered it's what you were asking, third: leave you alone (what a joke) I have not had contact with you in a week or more and really don't need your valve cover, forth: unlike you if I tell someone that I am going to do something I do it...you on the other hand should have stated that it was an auction and highest bidder wins...so I wish you much luck in selling all your parts and that your RX7 project goes as planned.....see I am an adult and really don't have to resort to name calling, I leave that for silly childish individuals who can't express themselves with out resorting to profanity......actions speak louder than words

There's one unusual thing I noticed about CD payments. Buyers are always mentioning it because they want to protect themselves. I don't have problem w/ that aspect. However, most people don't realize that there's COD charge. In my opinion, it doesn't matter whether charge is $1 or $100, buyer who makes that request should offer to pay those fees or make offer where those fees are included. Whenever I post something for sale, I don't put down "$XXX shipped COD".
