I just got a new tool set to dedicate specifically for my races since my garage is a mess and I cant ever find things I need. I have a **** ton of Craftsman tools but decided to go with Gear Wrench this time because of this deal I found.

Thats not too bad considering it comes in a nice small package , and if you are driving your car to the track.

I have to drag along the craftsman 10 drawer and the kitchen sink too.

 

If you like nice tools but don't want cheap tools go for Autozone's Duralast brand. Little known fact, they're produced by the same people who make Snap-On.

 

i keep a tool bag in my car all the time. i could basically disassemble my whole car with what i have

 

I tow my car but I think this will make it easier since I cant bring my tool chest. I basically only need to bring a couple extra random tools now outside of this kit.

This is a nice kit tho...no doubt.

 

I typically go race or do track days with a group of friends. These guys have a 40 foot enclosed with everything I need I just like to be independent to a point :p

 

Friends at track is a valuable thing to have. no doubt!

 

That's a great bit of advice for anyone, including guys who have a million and one tools, simply that could be tools specifically dedicated to that vehicle, instead of lugging tools around for/from this car, to that car, and so on...

 

Why even waste the money on standard size wrenches/etc... I know craftsman has a metric only set.

I might just buy the metric only ones from HF, and buy extras of whats missing with the kit.

 

Ehhh...I have broke lots of cheap tools I inherited over the years. I rather just buy stuff once, rather than it break when I need it.

Although this thing has made carrying tools around much easier since it rolls and has a luggage handle.

I think for most that cant or dont want to buy snap on or mac tools, these lower end kits are pretty good.

I have used Craftsman for years and I can say the feel and quality of the gearwrench units seems to be much better.

I have only had a few Craftsman ratchets break on me over the past 10 years, but for the deal I posted its a bargain even if they lasted a year or two.

 

I have a tool roll in the rally car which is pretty much anything I need to put the car together to hold until service. Zip ties, open end wrenches, screw drivers, spare wire, needle nose, locking wrench, adjustable wrench, knife, hose clamps, etc.

I'm buildling up an event specifici toolkit so I can leave my garage tools at home. But I want to put something together similar to the top WRC teams use as well. Like this kit run by ProDrive when they were in the WRC:

 

Thats badass, reminds me of a flight cases for music touring stuff.

Right now Im using a couple plastic containers with all my extras, thinking about adding something small and light weight to the tongue of my trailer that can hold my new slim line tool case, specialty tools, and spares like ecu etc.

Rally is a bit different when you're thinking of service stuff. Most what we do in a service is limited to a 15-30 minute window so most of the work (and spares we carry) are easier done as assemblies. I still don't have my stock up to that at the moment, but it's where I would like it to be.

I first started my event organization and what and how I bring it to events. Labeling boxes for fluids, spares, electrical, bolts and ties, etc. Then, anytime I raid the boxes for spares at an event I make sure to replace it from off my stock shelf at home.

While working at home, I try to never take anything out of the rally equipment boxes so when I go to an event all I do is load up boxes of I need and I'm off. No need to sort out a toolbox or dig through the spares. Sure, it costs a bit more up front, but it makes it a hell of a lot easier to deal with.
