Default Summit Point Average Times

Hello Everyone,

I was wondering if 1.39 is a good lap time for a stock (stock suspension, street tires, full welded cage, and cobalt Gt pads) 00 civic si on Summit's main track? I'm interested because I want to see if my ability as a driver is about average and if not, what I can do to improve my ability with the current setup I have before I start playing with pads, suspension, tires, etc.

Thanks
Patric

May be a little hard to compare in that you are on what maybe azenis and the SSC guys are running on r compounds which drops a bunch of time.

I was running on Yok. ES 100's. I definitly cooked them along with my pads. Not to mention the brake fluid boiled over a couple of times. I think if I improve my technique and change a few parts around I can try to achieve a better time. Thanks for everyones help.

Why does that berm (or whatever the hell it's called, the red & white striped thing) seem to come to a sharper point than I remember? Maybe it's because I miss that stupid apex all the time...

You shouldnt be "on" the apex in T1. The grip is on the concrete

I think you're right... Turn 6 - there's some sealer in front of the concrete, and looking over my pics T1 concrete has a funny pattern on it.

Well, wherever I'm supposed to be in T1 I usually am not . As far as which turn, I was basing it on the berm and on the cut-off hill thing in the background, looks like the hill immediately between the track and the little road to the Jefferson Circuit.

The more I think about that comment, the worse it seems.

T1 is one of the more...uncertain corners for me. I shouldn't say I'm not on the right line, but I feel like there is definitely a faster way through than the way I take. Hopefully some more track time this summer will remedy that.

Just follow the concrete

If your falkens arent howling, brake deeper and carry more speed!

T1 and T5...definitely stick to the 'crete.

I've seen so many people at T5 try the "textbook" way around and it's just simply not the fast way.

T5 I don't have a problem with, though I sometimes don't stay far enough to the left going into T6.

Just left of mid-track... dont need to be any further. T5 and T6 are comprimise corners.

There are some instructors that try to take students up very far left before turning right in 6.

I do like your way better, but sscguy might think he's got to be what you and I would call "too far" left.

You're right George, though if an instructor I've had has said otherwise and I've forgotten, apologies. If I stay mid-track, do I turn in a little earlier to T6? The times I've done that (that I can remember, it's finals time now, so my brain is pudding) the car felt looser, like it didn't have a chance to settle before turning in. Suggestions?

Yeah, turn in a bit earlier, and trailbrake... and get on it all the way until T10

That's another "point of contention" about going through there, whether or not to brake right before going into T6. Sometimes I'll give it just a tap, other times I just go a little slower setting up for the entry. I did try lifting just a touch to step the rear out a little, and that was nice, but it was a correction, not a preparatory action. As far as T6-T10, no problems there, on the gas alllll the way

Are you both driving cars that are completely OEM? My experience seems to be a little different.

If I get through T5 well enough, I'm going too fast not to tap the brakes just before T6.

I can't have it floored in third all the way through T6 without pushing the RA-1's past their limit.

Even then, I still have to lift momentarily to point the car quickly, and bounce off the gaters on the other side before turning left.

Then I'm in fourth before the right turn, and then I can keep it floored and get past a fast car T8 by riding his right rear bumper and making him point me by.

I could probably do a little better w/a little more practice, and stiffer springs.

My apologies, I'm on the gas, but definitely am not flooring it all through there. I don't THINK I lift before turning in at T8, but it's been a few months and my memory is crap lately. I guess the biggest thing is the braking/not braking immediately before T6. I am on Azenis, not R-compounds, so I know I'm not able to carry as much speed through T5, which might be the difference there. As far as setup goes, yes, that was OEM all the way last time I was there (November I think?).

TrailBrake for T6, then foot through the firewall until T10
