Poor Performance: Figuring Out What Went Wrong
Well, today I turned in my all time worst auto-x performance. Normally PAXing in the 6-8th position, I PAXed 40th today. I'm trying to think about what I did different (wrong) today but I just can't figure it out. Nothing is as frustrating as not being as fast as usual and not knowing why.
When you have an extremely bad competitive day in the car, what is the best way to figure out what happened? I want to learn from this experience.

Sit back, have a beer, and repeat after me: "A bad day of racing is still better than a good day of housework."
That's how I deal with it. Dwelling in it will just make it worse for the next event. Bad days happen.
Did you get to walk the course more than once or twice? How about conversing with some of the faster guys asking how they took certain lines or braked in a difficult part of the corse?
Most of all... relax.

If you figure it out, let me know. I've mentalled myself into racing with cars two classes back, and into pole position while driving an underprepared car.

I appreciate all the comments - especially the 'relax and have fun'. Thinking back on it again, I just didn't concentrate on the things I needed to be thinking about. I was worried more about going fast than I was about the basics (being smooth, looking ahead, etc.)
