paddock scooters?
http://www.goped.com/ these are the originals, might be able to find cheaper on ebay, or make one
I would find a used XR -series honda dirt bike in the 50-70cc range
They are alot of fun on or off road, they make good power for something that small, they have upgrades for them (Stroker kits, bigger suspention, ect.) and they make tires for street or them
plus if you have a kid you will look lilke super Dad wiht that
oh yeah and did I mention they are 4 stroke so all you have to do is put in gas and change oil and they last forever

I use a goped scooter. works fairly well. It even has a trailer accessory, goped claims it can pull up to 400 lbs! The problems I have with it is that it is loud, which isn't a problem during the day, but at night I don't use it; and it doesn't work off road. A lot of the tracks have dirt, gravel and/or grass roads & paddocks.
I've been crewing this year for a driver who brings at least one Quad to the races. More pricey, but many advantages...lots of cargo capacity, can haul 4 people in a pinch, can pull a pit cart or even the car, drives on any surface fairly quickly, a ton of fun on trails and farm fields away from the track.

We actually use a Honda Elite at the track. It's maybe 5 years old, reliable, takes up little space in the trailer, can carry two people, and has a little cargo compartment for a clipboard, headset, battle of water, whatever. It also has no problem going through some gravel or fields. Plus, it's street legal. I'm not about to move the rig once I get to the track so in an emergency, I can take the Elite. A 5 gallon gas can fits great between your legs.
I just sold my gas-powered pit scooter and went back to pedal-power. It was a bit noisy and cumbersome to pack around. If I go motorized again, it'll either be electric or a quiet gas something.
This thing was a blast to ride.

I agree. Get an old quiet cheap street legal Honda something or other. Recently I started up a CM70 which had been in storage since 1978. Just poured some gas in and installed a battery and it fired right up. Amazing. Stay away from any of the new pocketbikes unless you know there is some kind of support for them. Otherwise once a part breaks you might have to trash the whole thing for lack of parts.
Make sure your track allows your chosen mode of transport. Mid-Ohio has "shoot on sight" orders against bicycles, I was roughed up and nearly chucked off the premises by the head of Security for having a bicycle there once. At the Runoffs, every pit bike there must be registered with them or have legit road going license plates although the rest of the year you can probably get away with them if you keep a low profile. Bicycles on the otherhand are a hangin' offense.
I've been on the slow lookout for an old cheap Spree or similar little scooter.

What's the deal against bikes? I'd think the speedy, noisy, smokey, 2-stroke chainsaw motors on the back of a razor or scooter would get thrown out before a freakin' bicycle. On the polar opposite of that, Thunderhill has clearly marked track bikes which belong to the facility that anyone can use.

RJ its a sign when you come over the bridge... but about 50% of the paddock transportation is 2 wheeled... and i've NEVER heard of anyone getting into trouble for it.

I can't. But I don't recall seeing many (any?) two-wheelers at the MARRS races - most people had golf karts or ATVs.
There seem to be plenty of bicycles and gopeds at NASA events.

Depends on the model. The Bigfoot is the off road model, and much more pricey. Goped did a fantastic job making sure that parts aren't interchangeable between them.

Only thing I could think of would be bikes being too quiet. You'd hear a scooter coming, you might not hear .RJ sneaking up on his Trek.

BTW, this should concern our friends who are coming for Infineon Crossover weekend. NASA norcal has policy against any transportation that you can not sit on. Includes Razor scooter, Gopeds, and skateboard.
