My Time Attack Project
Why the heck did you put an OBDII harness in? Sounds like you could've saved yourself about 20 hours of work by slapping in a used OBDI harness and calling it a day.
Have you checked with the organization(s) you'll be driving with to see if that roll bar will pass tech? (specifically the rear supports)
I think it would help your cooling system to add a blockoff panel on the side of the grill that is not occupied by the radiator. Otherwise you'll have high pressure on both sides and decrease the cooling efficiency.
The underbody tray looks pretty trick. Are there provisions to jack up the car with that on there? You may want to have the jack points exposed for quick tire changes or checks of the underpinnings between run groups and sacrifice some of the aero efficiency.
Pretty cool looking project.

I like the cleanliness of the wiring!
Looks like you have put some serious time in, but your learning...
A full race car isnt the platform to learn in.

He's still building and has time to start subtracting the goodies like the splitter.
I think Spencer and a few of us agree you should halt on the other goodies and just get some seat time. Learning to control a car stock or close to it will make your learning curve much easier. From your first post saying you are going to get instruction on how to drive and your putting soooooooo much effort money and time in that. You are putting the cart before the horse.
Don't bite off more than you can chew right now. It only takes one off course excursion and the splitter and undercarriage your planning will be toast.
Overall you have a sound platform to build on.
Use what you have now and get some seat time.

looks nice a labor of love but your money would be off with seat time like everyone says. I have a CRX project going as well I stop spending money on it and started speeding my money on HPDE events. Now I am hooked I took my Honda Fit out and I was tearing it up but when my instructor got behind the wheel of my car I was like wow I did not know my car was that fast I was blaming my car for the slow driving but it was me. Trust me I have a long ways to go and sounds like you too but good luck racing will be expensive spend your money wisely.
that harness mounting looks scary. I'd check with the manufacture on the correct way to mount it.
I have never seen a harness that is supposed to be installed like that....
You got the wrong type of harness. It can be made to work, but i'd be very very surprised if that is how it was supposed to be mounted

a lot of hard work in your project.
i agree after attending my first de this month at roebling rd that seat time should be your biggest priority right now. I ran with darksidede.com at roebling and had a blast, they have another event on may 1-2 at roebling again you should look into as well for more seat time.
its too bad Doug Macmillan's landspeed record holding crx from new zealand from back in the day doesnt have pics of his custom undercarriage he made online (tried to find it for you and couldnt online) he also is co owner of hondata. i think he used fiberglass for his undercarriage.
lo-buck ef
help him out since you said he did so many things wrong, im sure you have knowledge that could really help him from your exp.
im curious why you didnt go with a full size radiator to block off that whole area so that all of the cooling is on the radiator? sell that half size and get a full size.
again seat time is huge, it was an awakening exp for me going from autox to a track with other cars running and learning proper techniques and car control.
looks like you already did the chin event? how did it go?

i like the thought and effort. i know the title says "time attack" but maybe it.s just a hpde car??..either way it is your car do it how you want. i will remain silent beyond that point so adam thinks im becoming more open minded. lol. ;p
ps. that half core radiator needs to hit the road.

That is one scary looking car. I would not put a foot in it. A lot of labor has gone in the build and very little knowledge and research have gone in the design of the vehicle. The safety aspect of the vehicle is awful. The roll cage is not triangulated and would collapse in case of a rollover. As previously mentioned the safety harness has been installed incorrectly. I couldn't see how the seat has been mounted (bolted or welded) and the loads have been spread on the bottom of the chasis. The seat could detach from chasis in case of an accident. The fuel tank looks to be a drag racing tank of some sort and I couldn't determine if if has been separated from the cabin by a firewall. Stock tank would have been safer. The wire harness is unlaced, hacked and in contact with vibrating body panels. I haven't seen supports for the back window. nor secondary retention devices. The "aero" device mounting has me feeling fuzzy all over. The vehicle is an accident waiting to happen.
I can see carbon bits and JDM front end but I haven't seen an LSD listed in the drive train description. The cooling setup and the "cold" air intake don't impress me either. If the car is driven on the streets the RHD headlights will blind the oncoming drivers.
I would suggest that in order to make the vehicle safe the OP reads copies of at least the NASA and SCCA GCRs. Rally car safety rules are very strict as well. Also, the OP should visit www.race-cars.com, www.racecarsdirect.com, the ebay race car listings, the touring car registry and similar and spend time looking at pictures of cars, wiring harnesses, roll cages, fuel cells, etc. The welding/fabrication forum here has a large amount of race car building information as well.
I understand the fun in building a car but a stock-ish vehicle and more money for track time would have been both safer, more reliable and more fun.
Good luck.

My hats off to you on this project. I love the kind of old school look of this CRX! I think you have really done well in building a nice car. I don't always understand the critics and where they come from, but for me I think this car represents grassroots racing at its best. I love the work you put into the aero package. I hope that this car serves you well and you and people like you keep racing and posting on this forum.
I love the shots of the project at different stages, you've really put a lot of work into this. The roll bar section of the cage is fine, just the rear section isn't triangulated, that's not the part that is going to save you in a roll over anyway. Let these guys say what they will about this or that, I think you've done an admirable job building this beauty and abviously you will continue to put your enthusiasm into developing the car further. This is one of the coolest projects I've seen posted in quite a while. THANK YOU!
