Default Mounting camera question

Iono if it belongs in this section or not, and I'm sorry if it doesn't belong. But anyways, I've been wondering about those cameras mounted on th cars during the races. Are those bought or are they just home-made?

Probably 70-80% of the cameras I've seen are IO Port mounts (or the like) with a camcorder mounted.

There's a few people running minicams connected to either a normal recorder (camcorder etc.) or a flash memory device. Sometimes these cameras are what you see recording from outside the car.

Shop ioport, etc.

I bought a little camcorder on sale at Circuit City for around $240...it works OK (Just don't use your camera bag for a pillow at the track at night after a few, well...a lot of drinks...half the buttons quit working and there is some minor crackage)...but it still works with the remote.

I'm kinda of a cheap *** so I made a camera mount out of a 1.75" muffler clamp and a piece of scrap steel I had laying around. The camera mounts with a 1/4-20 bolt.

Another option is SV Technologies mount --> http://www.svtek.com

I saw a couple of reviews on here where people seemed to prefer this one to the ioport unit. I actually ended up with used versions of both of them so I'm going to do some testing in my Miata.

If you have a dedicated race car with a rollbar, I have also heard of people buying a generic tripod head (like $20-40 at a camera store) and mounting it directly to their rollbar.

Chasecam.com has some cool stuff. I really like having a lipstick camera mounted on the roof of my car. (I previously used a I/O port mount)
