If it's not too late...be careful on I-10 in Hudspeth county near the Sierra Blancas (between Fort Stockton and El Paso). I know it's the middle of nowhere...but I got a ticket there when I was going to Phoenix ( 80 in 70...70 is way too slow when you have 1,200 miles to go)... Main thing is whenever you see everyone slow down suddenly after you've been cruising nearly 3/4 of the way through Texas on I-10 it's for a reason....unfortunately it took flashing lights and $80+ for me to figure out why everyone slowed down in the middle of nowhere....
And on the way back from Phoenix, Hudspeth county again, I-10 went down to a one lane detour to a vehicle inspection station.....and this is pre September 9/11...
Ain't Hudspeth county fun!!!!
BTW how do you like trying to stay on I-10 when going through San Antonio...that has to be the worst route I've ever seen. You have to exit to one side...then soon after to the opposite side...then soon after back over - all that just to stay on I-10...and if you missed a side change like I did, then you might be heading Southwest to Mexico....
Good thing about accidentally getting bumped off I-10, I found Highway 16....which has to be the sweetest sweeping and undulating roads in Texas...tons of fun, and mostly deserted! Wouldn't be fun driving a truck pulling a load though.... but oh man those 10-15 mph turn signs I laughed at, until indeed 10 mph was fast enough, almost too fast....
