Hyperfest rub......
I was running Hyper Drives on Saturday. A red Nissan 300ZX I passed on the front stretch and when entering turn 1 he didn't have any brakes because dumbass was on stock brakes.......he found me though.......oh wait, no it gets better. In turn 7 before entering the front stretch he tells his instructor his brakes were soft so dumbass instructor says lets do one more lap.....then pit. WTF!!!!
So, entering turn one he tells his instructor "No brakes No Brakes" and the instructor grabs the wheel turning him across the inside and into me. Thanks buddy........end rant.
-New door etc
-New fender
-Misc dents down the side
Instructor....headache, hit his head
Me.....little bit of whip-lash

i cant believe that happened, that really sucks. i remember right when my friends and i got there and went to the information tent we saw ur car, we were all like damn its clean. we couldnt believe it was the same car after the accident..

if u want the pic down let me know

yea, i saw your car and wondered what happend to it. i also saw that z and wondered what happend to that. that sucks real bad. but im glad noone was seriously hurt.
Damn, sorry to hear. At least everyone is ok. Hopefully this won't discourage you from future track endeavors.
I saw the z driving through the paddock with a boat load of positive camber..
The first question I'd ask a student is about the brakes. For most cars stock pads just won't cut it.

There's a pic!
I actually wonder how my instructor is doing. He had a headache right after it, hope its not worse.
The 300 isn't driveable, he bent up everything under. I'm glad they still let us run my car though. My brother and I were both running it.
Now for the repair work to begin so we're ready for more events.
Yeah I know the risk, how hard should I press the guy that hit me for $?? He was all "I'm so sorry man etc" and we're going to work something out as far as $ goes. He seems to be somewhat human anyway.

He doesn't owe you anything, regardless of fault. Anything more than $0 is a gift.
See if you can get him to split the damages, I think that's pretty fair for everyone, but don't get too offended if he refuses.
Good luck...

Yep, that falls under the "**** happens" rule. If he was really being a blatant ******* things MIGHT be a little different, but it doesn't sound like that was the case. Good luck with everything.
damn dude..i'm sorry. I was walking around with my buddy early in the day and was like oh thats a pretty si.. with evos...and a cage...and no interior.. bet he's gonna run today.
I know that anything more than $0 is a gift. He was pretty human about it and understanding of the situation. We did speak about splitting it 50/50.....just have to see what happens. Its just annoying when its over something so stupid.....most accidents involve stupidity.
I just don't understand why someone is allowed on track with stock brakes. I mean, stock suspension etc so what.........but stock brakes is just stupid and can get someone killed......the driver, instructor, someone else on track etc. They pop my hood, yup the engine cranked........tug on my wheels with their hand, yup they're there. I mean, the inspection I went through was a joke and I do know that there are more involved inspections but point being, stock brakes should be a ruled out in every case...........just my 2 cents.

thats the only picture i've found..
stock brakes are ok, but i think some sort of high performance street pads should be highly recommended to get at the very least. i think the big problem is that the hyperdrive allows some with very little to zero racing experience(ie: road course, autox, etc..) and dont really know their limits or are just too caught up in the excitment to know when to stop. the instructors should also ask if the car is starting to feel different. my first instructor asked me a couple times about my brakes and tires, luckily they held up just fine and he was confident in me to allow me to keep going.
anyone know what happened to the grey/black civic coupe that came into the pits with smoke and had to be trailered out?

Was the Civic doing Hyperdrive?
During the last run a Mazda 3 lost its drain plug for its tranny. Guess who found it braking/entering turn one.....my brother and once again the Civic went skidding.
Additionally, my header broke loose going under the hood being why my car was so loud.............just one of those days! Can't wait for VIR, we're from that area and haven't run there before.

Read the OPs post. The driver of the 300ZX DID feel his brakes getting soft, told the instructor, and the instructor said, "one more lap, then we'll pit." Given that the guy was a noob and didn't know any better, he was doing what the instructor said. To me, that places a lot of blame on the instructor, who SHOULD'VE said, "ok, cool it down and back off a few tenths, we'll use this last lap as a cool-down."
The whole POINT of a hyperdrive is to give someone with no experience a taste of tracking. Hell, that's how both my brother and I got started in all this years ago. I don't see how this is any different from the first session of a guy in HPDE1 who's doing his first event ever.

i did a hyperdrive in my wifes' bone stock fit. brakes didn't even feel a lick of fade, too. i think it has something to do with poor maintenance on a HEAVY car, more than just "stock brakes"..
did anyone get a picture of me? probably not.
anyways, that sucks dude, i am sorry. i saw your car also. think of it this way, yey! track damage!! better than getting t-boned on the street! not that that helps, though.

Yeah, some people PAY for stickers of door donuts like that.

Yep, it's a sort of "red badge of courage." Except in this case a black circle. Either way, some view it as a rite of passage.
Sorry to hear of this though. Something that could have been totally prevented by simply not pressing on that last lap.

I do not want to get involved in this, because I was on the other track and have no idea at all what was going on or why things happened the way they did.
My sole purpose for posting is simply to caution everyone that any observations or judgements are made without consideration to the full set of facts.
Unless someone's willing to put on the Black Robe and compel evidence, we are never going to know everything that was going on with both cars, and everything that was on the minds of the four people involved in the decisions that led to the incident.

The head guy "Pat" road with us for most of the remaining runs due to the door not being able to open. I spoke with him about that instructor and made my point how stupid it was of the instructor to do what he did as it was explained to me. I pointed out that the instructor is the teacher and should have the experience to know better in what was an avoidable incident. He told me he would be having a serious talk with the guy......however far that gets, who knows.
Towing the car home this weekend to Danville and will hopefully have it ready for paint before the weekend is over. Got to love having a good friend that does body work! The good part is I can leave the car there since VIR is right down the road
I'm gonna get one of those collar things for the next time we run.......I don't know the name........whiplash is a b*tch.

I believe the Hyperdrives @ Hyperfest were handled by BSR instructors not NASA instructors. There certainly isn't a "head guy" in the NASA-MA instruction ranks named "Pat"...
Dunno, wasn't there, can't say for sure,

I completely agree with what Stinkycheezmonky said. If a person can't gain track experience during hyperdrives or HPDEs, where can they? I will say that I am very surprised that this would happen during a hyperdrive compared to a HPDE. Heck, at the last Hyperfest I attended we went out in my Tundra during the hyperdrive. (Or maybe they called it a different name - it was the sessions to give people a taste.)
