Hillclimbs?
I just thought that some of you might be interested in trying hillclimbing, if you knew more about it. I've autocrossed, road raced, drag raced, and run karts over the last 30 years, but i get the biggest rush from charging flat out up a mountain road on cold tires. I also enjoy the record setting aspect of it. Many of these events have been held for over 50 years and you are always running against your class record. Many of these hillclimbs have quite a history with many of the legends of the sport having run them. In fact, the last year I ran Beech Mountain Elliot Forbes Robinson ran it the same year he won the Daytona 24 and won the ALMS Cahmpionship the next year. See http://www.blueridgehillclimb.org http://www.pahillclimb.org http://www.svvscc.org for the Hershey Vintage Hillclimb.
Blueridge hillclimb was the first date on my official calendar. I'm SUPPOSED to be on the SoloI mailing list so I'll know when entries are accepted. I will be there.

Yes, the Blue Ridge Hillclimb is set for May 15th and 16th. We will be sending out postcards to the folks on the SeDiv SOLO I mailing list the first week of March (giving these folks the opportunity to sign up before it is opened to the public), then open it up to the public the last week of March. We'll update the http://www.blueridgehillclimb.org website the first week of February. I'll give you guys/gals some more updates when we know some more info.

Actually, getting a novice SCCA solo 1 license is easy. If your safety equipment meets the requirements, you can sign up for membership and the novice permit at most events. You very often can borrow driver's suits, gloves, etc. from friends who are also entered.
Though you cannot run the Hillclimb on a Novice permit, AFIAK. If you do the Solo I route, get a novice permit and run one event before and you should be fine.
J28S will have more info or hit up the SEDIV Solo I site.

Anyone know of any hill climbs in the Western half of the US? There used to be one in Virginia City, NV, but it had been cancelled due to a couple of deaths a few years ago.
The Northwest Hillclimb Association sanctions a series in Oregon, Idaho, and N. Cal. take a look at...

Have fun! The NW events are GREAT. They average 2 miles and 2 minutes - and LOTS of corners.

Sorry guys, I should have said that different areas have different rules regarding novice permits. I do think that the Pennsylvania Hillclimb Association does allow novices to enter their hillclimbs, but I realize that other organizations do not. See http://www.pahillclimb.org for rules clarification.
