Default Harness Question

Can someone inform me on what type of driver restraint I should get? I do not know whether i need a bolt in or wrap around type of mounting. The car is an 88 CRX with 8 point cage and the seat is a Momo Nascar.
Thank you

depends what you have available to mount to...

In all the cars I've ever been in the shoulder restraints have been wrap arounds to the roll bar (actually cage) and the others were the solid holes which mounted to another part of the cage...

many peope get the clip style things that connect to eye bolts for the lap & sub belt
because they don't have a full cage and lower seat bars..

If you have an up-to-date cage, there should be a horizontal brace about shoulder level behind the driver. Use this for wrap-around style shoulder belts. The lap belts can usually be mounted to the stock belt mounts (use eyebolts if you are retaining OEM harness). The sub belt will obviously need a hole made through the floor - just use a large washer underneath to stop it pulling through (I think the SCCA GCR recommends 6" diameter, but double check that number).

As for brand, I have no preference between the common labels (Sabelt, Sparco, Simpson, Autopower, etc). But I do prefer cam-lock buckles over latch/link. The cam-lock is a round buckke that the belts snap into. Twist a small lever in teh center to release them all. Latch/link works just as well, but is harder to buckle, especially with a helmet on.

I am trying to install a set of MOMO harness. The lap belt is the one that's throwing me off guard. It has a "snap" thingy that snaps onto an eye bolt. but the eye bolt doesn't fit into the OEM belt mount hole (too small to thread on). Does that mean I should get an eye bolt that fits and also long enough to accomodate the OEM belt?
So one goes underneath the B-pillar and the other lap belt goes where the buckle is right? (but it's attached to the seat...)

thanks

On my Civic, I had to lose one of the spacers from the stock outside bolt for the eyebolt to fit. They apparently don't make the eyebolts long enough to use both. On the inside, you use the existing mount on the seat, replacing the existing bolt with an eyebolt. You may have to cut some of the plastic trim to allow the eyebolt to protrude. It's a lot easier to do all this if you take the seat out.

What I was think was using the eyebolt that came with the harness, but that didn't fit well into the mount underdeath the B-pillar. Too small in that case. Maybe there is some eyebolt out there that can fit the thread of the hole?

Will it not thread, or is the whole bolt too short? If the whole bolt is too short, this is a common problem using the OEM outer hole (I had to tackle this twice). See if you can find someone with the older/longer design of eye-bolts. Those fit quite nicely. The newer/shorter ones are perfect for the seat clip side, however, so don't scrap those.

Sorry, I don't have any extras, but I found both of the ones I'm using right here on this board.
