future set up
hey whats up guys, just wanting to see what set ups are reccommend by you guys for someone who wants to get into road racing (beginner). Ive always been all about drag racing (2.0+ 84mm high compression n/a or 81mm w/ a big *** turbo haha) but the last couple of months Ive been paying attention more to road racing set ups, wether it be here on the boards or from magazines I pick up.
From reading I guess it would be ideal to pick up a stock gsr or ITR and learn from there but money is an issue as those COMPLETE swaps still are in the 3K+ range. I can piece together a much cheaper set up since I have a friend with a shop who gets blown motors all the time. Most set ups Ive come across are very simple, most of them are stock bottom ends with a built head (i mean for drag racing, u pretty much gotta go all out, wether it be N/A or turbo to have fun). My question is wether it would be a good idea to stay 81mm or 84mm, I must mention that the build is going to be on stock sleves. I want a reliable motor with usable power, something i can build for cheap and just have fun without getting bored and trying to upgrade too soon. As of right now I have these set ups in mind
BLOCK OPTIONS
1. Stock GSR bottom (if i can find one)
2. LS block either bore have size over to 81.5mm or bore to 84mm w/ itr pistons or forged aftermarket pistons and aftermarket rods
3. b20 block bore to 84.5mm w/ aftermarket forged pistons and aftermarket rods
I wanna be able to do pump gas 91, so Im thinking about for a 11.5 compression...?????
HEAD Option
1. b16, stock valves, skunk 2 pro 2 cams, full valve train, After market intake manifold and throttle body
2. gsr head, stock valves, skunk 2 pro 2 cams, full valve train, After market intake manifold and throttle body
Tranny option
1. ITR stock tranny
2. GSR stock tranny w/ aftermarket LSD, maybe a diff. final drive
I WOULD ALSO LIKE TO SEE WHAT SET UPS SOME PEOPLE ARE RUNNING, FROM BLOCK SET UPS, HEADS, HEADER, TRANNY AND ENGINE MANGEMENT.

If you'd like to see you need to read.
What do you want to do
RR, NASA, or SCCA
TA
HPDE
Check out the stickies. Start there.
This all starts with you.. deciding what sanctioning body you would like to run with.
Then you read the CCR's and GCR's and determine what is legal to run.
From there you can decide what kind of set up you can run.
Reading the rules and deciding what you can use can be found there.
