Feedback on lap around CMP
Did my first hpde @ CMP this past weekend. It rained during the first 2 sessions on sat. So first time @ CMP along with my first time in the wet... Lets just say interesting... Sunday was dry and clear all day long.
I managed to get consistent with 1:55/1:56 lap times.
I think that I could have carried more speed through T3 and that I need to do better downshifting to carry more speed through T8. I also didn't have the best line through T14 in this particular lap.
Also, does anyone else get their drivers side tires destroyed @ cmp? I had a set of R888's with 1 weekend @ VIR full. My drivers front barely has any tread left. Driver rear looks worn. Passenger sides show wear, but still have tread. Just wondering if CMP is evil or if this is more a result of bad driving?
Anyways, here is the vid. Any input would be appreciated :

It is hard to do, but flat out through the kink is important...
And yes, you do have some time in 3...just take your time and release the gas a little bit less each time through.
Your lines look pretty good, cept maybe the last one before the front straight (dont remember the number), where you may have missed the apex and failed to track all the way out drivers left..maybe carry a little more speed through there.

what is your alignment settings?
weight of car?
I have a few laps on CMP... it is hard on tires, and used to be very hard on brakes but with the new sections it's better and faster.
I have very little wear on my car there, but it was set on the aggresive side.

yes, forgot to mention that CMP is very hard on tires...possibly the hardest of any southeast track...
I dont run there anymore as a result....altough, I havent run there either since the re-do of the "autocross section".
Pretty good for your first time though, the details will come with more track time.

I would say that was a good lap, looks like you mostly have the line but you just dont have the seat time to feel comfortable with the speed yet.
A little later apex on 1+2, a little less lift and some curb at 3, more speed into 4+5, I try and carry as much around four as I can only using the throttle to stabilize the car and brake through five, smoother onto the throttle through 6+7 (the carousel), once you get in it dont lift, less brake at 8, get right on the pylons at 9, less lift at 10 (the kink), get closer to the apexes at 11+12, 13 is a gimme, and 14 open the wheel just a little sooner.
Hopefully you dont find this too harsh, but its the same way I analyze my own laps to try and find more speed and try and learn from my mistakes.

There was a lot of junk/marbles at the end of T1, T11 & T14, so I was trying not to go too deep. My brake pads were also a little low, so it felt a tiny bit squishier than usual.

Alignment is (F/R):
Camber -2.4/-1.4
Toe 1/16out / 0
Castor 1.6 / na
Car weight is about 2500lbs. But as silly as it sounds, I don't remember if that is with driver weight or not.I want to say that was after we put the weight in the seat.
It didn't seem to be too hard on the brakes, but it was pretty hard on the tires.

Thanks. I don't know that I will be going back to CMP anytime soon. The extra money from tire wear and hotel stay could buy more seattime elsewhere.

No, not harsh at all. Constructive criticism is always welcome! I had to be careful with the throttle through the carousel because its a bit bumpy through there and my wheels would skip.

I'm in a stock seat with just a cg-lock. I had to brace myself with my elbow on the door to make it through the carousel. I've started to wear knee pads because I was killing my knees from bracing.
I'm working on my grip. Believe it or not, but its better than it was. I believe part of it is from the fact that I have to brace myself so much so I'm using the wheel for more than just steering.
Long story short, I don't feel as secure in the car as I would like. I'm not sure what my options are given that seats are not in the budget right now.

Never driven CMP so I can't comment there, but...
Do Del Sol seats fit in an EK? They're IMO the best stock seats available period, and much better than anything else OEM on track. They can be found cheap too, I picked mine up for like $100.

you had the green k swapped ek in advanced or int.?
I had the black civic si with a type r, I had nitto nt01s and my driver side front was worn more than others on the first day, I rotated my tires at lunch every day to keep that one from getting beat to hell.
I wish i had timed my self.

Yup, that was me. I was in intermediate. With the R888's, you can only rotate front/rear, not left/right, so my drivers side tires took a beating. Interesting thing I noticed was that I wore off most of the tread from the middle to outside edge of the tire. I still have a bit on the inside edge. My front camber is -2.4, so looks like the car wants even more negative camber.

Yes, -3.5 to -5.0 is ideal
