Default Alpinestars?

Does anyone have any experience with their FIA lineup? I like the look and quality of the gear, but would like some input.

I had a pair of their gloves and was not impressed with their stitching. They fell apart in very little time. Also, I found the fingers to be too long compared to the palm size unlike the Sparco gloves I use now.

I have a pair of the gloves and shoes and thus far I have been happy with both. I had some Sparco gloves as well and they seem similar in quality except that the Alpinestars gloves use external stitches.

Can't comment on there FIA stuff, but I have quite a bit of their M rated equipment and has held up for two years of riding and survived a 30mph loside slide for life without any of the stitching or inserts breaking or busting. Their one of the top rated motorcycle equipment manufacturers so one would only assume they would want to put equal effort and quality into an FIA line up.

Stay away from their gloves if you spend a good bit of time at the track. I love their design and grip but they don't last worth a &^%$&^ !!!

I've gone through two pairs in a year and a half. The stiching seems to wear out pretty fast around the edges and I also had the stiching come loose at the seam between the two sections of cloth near the wrist area.

Sometimes expensive isn't better. I have tried everything. I have two sets of Sparco's which I was happy with but didn't like the feel. I had one set of OMP's which lasted forever but didn't fit too well and my Momo's fit the best but fell apart.

So far I like the cheapest glove the best. It's just a $90 G-Force glove but it fits well and has actually lasted through 7 race weekends and 2 track days.

I have never tried Simpson's but some friends of mine that spend more time at the track than at home swear by them.

Regards,

Jon P. Kofod (who refuses to throw his old gloves away....their piling up)

I also use their gloves and shoes and I like them very much so far. Especially the shoes, they fit perfect I have only used the gloves for a few track days and Skippy school, but they seem to be holding up.

Their suits won't be release until the end of the year. According to my rep over at Alpinestars, the will be shown at PRI; possibly SEMA but not certain.

their gear is very popular with the motorcycle guys, for both motocross and roadracing. So far they only have shoes and gloves available for autoracing. They do sponser a lot of drivers in F1 and WRC, so the rest of their stuff should be coming soon.

I saw their suits on demon-tweek's website, and I really like the look of them. Wouldn't mind trying them out.

Not to hijack, but maybe just a little.

Don't shoot me for asking. Please?

Has anybody see, or possibly even tried the new Oakley shoe?

While we're at it, do you prefer low-cuts, or high-cut race shoes? I can see the advantages and disadvantages of both, but can't afford to go out and try them all...

thoughts?

Andrew, who's Piloti's don't seem to fit well in the heel (and is interested in a real race shoe, not anything hybrid tennis shoe)

I have a pair of their gloves. I haven't gotten to use them yet, but they fit perfect and feel pretty grippy on stuff. I have no complaints as of yet, but I'll let ya know in a years time (if they last that long )

Well, I got the gloves yesterday and I'm very happy with them. I got the F1-R version (padded for the rally car), and they are wicked awesome. They fit very snug, so they still need a bit of break-in time. Overall, I'm very satisfied with the quality, but I felt ridiculous driving around with them on, as they're pretty flash.

On the Oakley's: They seem to be VERY pricey, but look like a good enough shoe. For the money they want, I'd get Puma's or the new Momo SHO2. I personally don't like having my ankle restricted, so I'm not a big fan of hightops. But I'd also wear shorts and a t-shirt if I could.
