Well to the best of my understanding a candy paint has a colored clear atleast the old fashioned way of doing them and a metallic or oem style paint job has a clear clear.

Pearlescent has teeny weeny glass beads added to the paint, this caused weird light refraction hence you get a multicoloured paint effect (depending on which angle you view it from). Metallic has teeny weeny bits of reflective "stuff" added to the paint, hence light bounces off the relective surface........may be this can solve your problem.

metallic paint is a two stage process, while candy paint is a three stage process.

metallic: base + clear
candy: base + candy + clear
