Paint for headlight bucket
The black trim on the inside of my projector lights has a clear coat on it that is coming off. I need to repaint them. Any suggestions on what type of paint to use and can sandable primer be used to fill before I paint? The bucket is made of plastic. Also should I use flat or gloss, the clear coat gives them a high gloss finish. I think I might use high temp since it does not cost any more than regular dupli-color. I just don't want it to peel and I have to heat them to reseal it.
What do you mean by bucket? I'm guessing you talking about the bezel (housing) of the headlight. If so, yes you can sand, prime, and paint. It wouldn't hurt to use high temp paint. Just make sure you pull out the projector, mask off any areas that are not being painted(i.e. reflector, signal, etc..). Good luck
On this type of light the back half of the housing holds the reflector and projector lens. The outer lens or bezel comes off the front. In between these you have a "bucket", it is black abs plastic, it basically fills in the gap between the two major halves. Thanks for the info, I sanded and painted one today. I'll try to put it together tomorrow and start on the left one. I'll post later as to the long term progress of the paint, and also if it survives the oven tomorrow (TO RESEAL).
