HID Kit question
A good friend of mine recently reccommended a vvme.com hid kit. He has put these on his rex, and on his cbr bike and he loves both. I just want to upgrade my stock lowbeams to a 4300 so I have better visibility at night. My question is I need to make sure I get the right bulb size for my 94 Honda Civic CX hatch.
I called a local Oreilly's and they said it's a 9300. He also said it could be a D2R. After doing some more digging I found that a H4 is the same thing as a 9300??? Can anyone confirm this, I just want to make sure I order the right bulbs for my kit. Any input would be greatly appreciated. Thanks |

you mean 9003? if so, that is your correct bulb and yes H4 is the same as 9003
and no it wouldn't be a D2R bulb since your car did not come with HID equipped headlights. also if you get an HID kit that is only single xenon (1 burner) then you will loose your high beam function. |

Yea I meant 9003/H4, thanks for the info, didnt realize I would lose my high beams. Hrm decisions.

There are also Bi-Xenon kits where you have both low and high beams in HID.

ALL 92-2000 civics are h4 or 9003.
EK B said it there are bi xenon where the bulb moves for high beams you CAN use d2r blubs but you will need to get a h4 adapter for the head light. |

yea they're 8000k. got them for 97.99 on ebay and they're going into stock housing. just giving you a little background.
i'll prolly get a video if i can figure out how to get it off my camera. |

Most likely a kit in your stock housings will glare and refract so much that you'll barely get any usable light increase on the ground where you need it in front of the car, and instead will throw light all over the place and blind on-coming drivers. With H4 headlights, there are a few options for real usable increased light without having to use these inferior HID kits. I believe Philips and Osram both make upgraded H4 bulbs that put out a noticeable increase in light over stock H4's, while still using the same amount of power as stock H4's. They're not like those high-wattage bulbs that will melt housings, wiring, and switches, and they're not ricer blue-colored to further reduce light output, either. I highly suggest you look into something like this before you just throw some cheap crap HID kit in your headlights that weren't designed for them. Either that, or do a proper bi-xenon HID projector retrofit, or you could do single-xenon HID projectors if you use an aftermarket headlamp that has separate high beams. |

in my personal experience with my friend's hid kits and retrofits, they say a retrofit is too much work for what it gets you. i parked my car next to my friend's with hid's parked towards a wall and from 25 feet away, the cut off lines looked exactly the same. so o well

so i just install the kit tonight (damn dhl came at 7pm) and it works great. the cutoff line looks exactly the same as the halogen cut off. the high/low function works flawlessly. funny thing is, you can hear the bulb moving back and forth between high/low beams.
on my car (lx 4dr w/ p/s and a/c) after i removed my factory intake resonator, there was plenty of room for the passenger side ballast, however the driver's side was a little more tricky. i ended up just mounting the top of the bracket and then wedged it between the p/s reservoir and the headlight housing. driving impressions: much, much better visibility than my old silverstars. like i said, cut off is pretty much exactly the same as the silverstars, although everything between the end of the beam and the end of my fog light beams is much much brighter. driving for 2 hours of various roads, not one car flashed me or even looked like they were squinting. high beams reach crazy far. overall impressions: great quality, awesome visibility, bi-xenon, 14 month warranty, and all for under 100 bucks. damn... pictures will come tomorrow night |

im not sure if you have them also but when i mounted my ballasts there were holes on each of my shock towers the you can put screws into.

So yes, I believe it pretty much impossible that the cutoff could be anywhere near the same as the stock halogen reflector H4 bulbs. Post pics to prove me wrong. |

looks like garbage, nothing but glare all over the place. No offense to you, just calling it like I see it, and that will for sure blind the hell out of everyone and probably barely puts any more light on the ground where you need it than stock H4's do.

o well mine work fine the light up the road way better than my silverstars and not one person has flashed me yet. so i'm keeping them.
also you look about 20 feet from the garage. move back to 50 feet where i was (yes i measured) and take a picture there. just so we have an apples to apples comparison |

Toshiba HIRs FTMFW! When I get better night pics in an empty lot I'll update to show how well these babies light up the road for miles. Cut off doesn't matter how far you are. You have it or you don't. I'll take some shots at Ocean beach tonight though to compare my stock Sylvanias to the HIRs. Silverstars are garbage, btw. |
