Default EG fog light install problems

Since about March 2010, I've been through about 2 or 3 sets of foglights in my EG. The first set lasted about 1 week, then the left bulb went out so I replaced it with a set of Silverstar bulbs turned them on they worked and as soon as I turned them off I heard a pop and about 3 days later I take out the switch and it's completely melted. The same thing pretty much happened to the second set of fog lights and both sets were Plug in play. Mind you, both were from ebay.

My question is, will I have this same problem with the fog lights from PWJDM, JHPUSA or Weaksauce, which are all also plug n play kits.
Or was it just something on my part that was causing these fog lights to die after a week?

Thanks for any/all input.

Who made your first set of fog lights? Winjet, Depo... those are the two most common ones.

The main culprit I find in both of them is actually the relay they use. 1) It's non-standard so it's a pain to replace and 2) It's highly subjective to installation. IE: Put it in a bad spot and you're screwed.

Your problem of blowing out bulbs really sounds like a relay harness wiring problem. I'm almost inclined to just say run an HID relay harness and wire it into the switch they give you. Why? It's a $6 fix at Radio Shack if the relay ever pops.

are you sure the relay is working?? i had one that "clicked" like normal but the contact on the inside was messed up. have you checked ur lights ground too? when ever i run wires like that i always put a extra fuse in the line just in case.
