Basic H.I.D. question
Do all HIDs work on high and low beams? The lights I have were wired to work only on the high beams so I just flipped the one wire so when the low beams are on they work. I was wondering if I can just tap into the line and make it so the low and high beams will work. I did notice when I flipped to the low beam the light area output did change. I didnt know if I should make it to do both or if you need a special bulb to operate hi/low
I dont know if i understood any part of your question. You didnt say what your set up is so we have no idea what youre working with and how its set up in the first place to understand what you want to do. Then it seems like whatever it is you have works only on high beams but then it works when you use ur low beams and then you want to make them both work when they seem to work when you use the low beam. Also a lot of people dont truely know what HIDs are because of the way companies mislead everyone in marketing their products. Im not saying you dont know but i have no idea what youre understanding of HIDs are. The first question is vague or non specific. Youre gonna need to describe what your situation is with what you have, what youre using and how youre using them.

Confusing to say the least...
Do you know if they are bixenon, or are they single beam or low beam HID and high beam halogen?
Also, what bulb size are we speaking about?

I have no idea what kind of bulb or set up it is. I bought the car and it had it already installed. I basically noticed that when I turned the lights on it would only work when I turned on my highs. I opened the hood and noticed that there were 3 places that a wire could be put into. I basically took one of the wires out and put it in the other empty spot and then the lights worked on lows but not highs. I was thinking about splicing the wire so that it goes into the location where it was for the high and then it would be in the low and high location. How do you tell what kind of bulb it is? I know it is not one of those fat cyclinder ones. It looks more like a halogen with a tiny black wire type on the outside of one side.
If the light pattern was different when it worked on the high beam though wouldnt that mean that it should work? Or does it just change because of more voltage going to it?

Some of what youre saying is still confusing but it seems you arent sure of what youre looking at anyway.
Do you mean 3 wires that arent connected or 3 bulb locations? You need to explain further what you mean by putting a wire into another empty spot cuz this could be moving a wire thats doing nothign to an empty hole that does nothing. Perhaps you meant you moved a bulb from one spot to another?
Pictures would probably help a lot too so we can see what you are seeing and of the headlight itself so we know if its a stock headlamp or an aftermarket one. The "hids" that youre referring to as well. A bulb usually has letters/numbers on it somewhere that identify it. H3 h7 9006 9005 just for example. Check your bulb or post a picture if u dont see anything.
If we assume you have a stock headlight for your 2000 civic if thats what you have, then as i recall you should have one bulb that operates low and high beams and one bulb for the turn signal. I dont know if those civics had the smaller bulb in the housing for a third but i dont think they do.
After looking over the things youve said i think im getting a picture here. Again assuming stock headlights so that you have one bulb for high and low beam. Only your high beam was working at first cuz you said you flipped it to lows it didnt work but when you put it on highs they did. A wire was not connected for lows or the low beam filament is bad. But then you said you moved the wire to im guessing the other one so you managed to get the low beam working by disconnecting power to the high beam. I think what youre asking is using whatever wire (we dont know if its a high beam or low beam wire at this point) that you have, you run it to both 'spots' but in doing this you'll but running power to both your high and low beams at the same time which is the same as driving around with high beams blinding everyone.
If you get power from this wire when youre set to high beams then thats the high beam wire. If you switch to low beam and this wire no longer puts out light then it should confirm it. The other wire should work just when its on lowbeam and should not once u turn the switch off. You should be able to test the wires by using a test light as well and using the light switch in the same manner.
None of this addresses your hids though but i think you need to sort out what you have first and maybe get the wiring right.
