Hello everyone! Like the title says, I ran into a little issue while visiting the state inspection ref. A little background information - the headlights in question are actually HID headlights. Apparently, the bulbs currently on my vehicle are 8k HID's vice the 4.3-6k which seem to be the norm HID's. This caused a failed inspection accompanied by a rejection sticker. Great!
Trying to fix the problem, I went ahead and purchased a set of replacement bulbs (D2S). The replacement bulbs purchased will not fit the OEM HID housing. The indentation needed in order for it to fit is not there. Here's a picture for reference:

*Replacement bulb on the left, one previously there on the right. The little half-circle to the left of the top opening is missing.

If anyone here has had this issue before and was able to correct it, please let me know how you went about it. Any information to help with this will be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance!

 

Are the headlights OEM HID?


If not you have the wrong bulbs.

 

To answer your question, yes, the headlights are OEM HID.

 

The D2S's should fit then.



Was the light modifed at all to fit the other ones? It has to be that, or the bulb is not right.

 

Looking at the housing and previous bulb, the light was not modified at all. Now, while doing some more browsing and looking around, the bulbs previously there were D2C's, not D2S's, and the ones I had earlier were D2R's, hence why they didn't fit. Thank you for your help. Now it's time for me to look for a good pair of D2S's on line. Again, thanks!

 

the one of the left isnt a d2s bulb.. thats a d2r bulb and is for reflector hids like the prius.. the d2r also has that coating on the capsule, the d2s wont..

d2r on the left and d2s on the right.. d2s is what you need

 

Thank you! D2S's arrived today. Didn't waste any time and put them on. Much better! Now I just need to wire the fog lights correctly (i.e. for the fog lights to go off when the high beams are turned on).
