Default k20a vs. k20a2

Ok so i'm planning a swap and was planning from day one to go with a k20a longblock because of the 20hp increase over the k20a2.

Now i'm at a dillema, i'm wondering if the R motor is worth it. I know it has higher compression etc but if i'm planning on doing I/H/E and possibly cams to whatever motor I go with is the k20a2 a better choice? After thinking about it I think I would have more options later down the road with the a2 as opposed to the R motor. Also aren't both motors pushing around the same power with I/H/E and Kpro?

No they will not push the same HP with bolt ons and a tune. Basically it comes down to how much you want to spend, how much work you're going to put in to it down the line and which tranny you'll want if you're buying the full swap.

The k20a will be much more expensive especially if you get it from somewhere like hmotors compared to picking up a local k20a2. I'm talking like a difference in $3000 or more sometimes. But it does come with the ITR tranny with the 4.7 and LSD.

I personally spent the extra money and went with the k20a. I wanted the LSD and 4.7 since it's my track car and I wanted that extra 20hp start because I do not plan on modifying it more than bolt ons. With just i/h/e/im I made 230whp and 172 wtq.

Check k20a, they have a dyno sheet thread that's like 50 pages long. It'll give you an idea of what you need to do to each to make what kind of power, including the k24 that was suggested.
