Ep3 k20a swap
I recently bought a jdm k20a swap, supposedly a dc5, but comes to find out its a ep3 k20. The guy included a prc ecu, which is for the dc5. Any issues using the prc ecu? Thanks
This depends on which K20A engine you received. What does the head casting say ? Have you removed the valve cover to see if you have 3-lobes at each cylinder on both the Intake and Exhaust camshafts ? If the Intake cam has only two lobes on each cylinder and the Exhaust cam only has one lobe for each cylinder... then you have a BASE engine, just like what is found in a USDM EP3 or Base RSX and the PRC ECU will NOT run this engine properly.
What you are looking for is 3 lobes on each cylinder both Intake and Exhaust... and the head casting says "PRB" somewhere on it... typically on the back just above the header flange (which may be covered by the exhaust manifold shield) or between the cam sensors on the transmission end of the cylinder head. If your K20A matches this... the PRC ECU will work just fine, although you will have to re-pin the fuel pump activation wire.

I will open it up and check tomorrow. Its definitely a R swap of some kind. Just not 100% sure what year and model. The intake manifold stamp is RSP. I checked the tranny and it has an lsd. How can I also tell what tranny I got?
