newb looking for ideas
Here's the first post intro. I joined to get some build ideas and inspiration. My initial thoughts are 4th-5th gen hatch with b16 swap. I'm from Wisconsin and currently have a 04 Mazda 6s, no Honda at this point.
Thanks for the welcome. As far as specifics go...I really don't have any hp or time goals. The only things I've really considered is removing the back seat, sri, decent rims, springs (maybe coilovers), and bracing. I will probably focus on suspension more than power. I really don't know enough about the car yet to have a solid plan. If anyone has suggested reads I'd appreciate it!
Well ive owned n built 20+ hondas, i used to take the back seats out of EVERYTHING but after havin so many loud exhausts i prefer to keep them in to deafen some of the noise lol. Ive owned everything from crx's to ef hatches, coupes of all yrs, etc etc n any platform u pick would b a good. My suggestion would b the 92-95 "5th gen" outa ur 2 choices, if this is ur 1st honda which by ur post i assume it is, a b16 is a rly fun drivetrain, ive built 3 of them at this point n currently have 1 now. Id go w the short ram intake(i usually run a v-stack), i personally like the rmf header n my personal exhaust choice is a 2.5" megan cat-back(no cat in exhaust). Suspension? I like lotek "short" shocks, ground control or skunk2 coilover sleeves, tubular front adjustable a-arms(camber kit), upper strut bars, rear lower tie bar n i always use energy suspension bushings EVERYWHERE! Get a fresh alignment on it n itl handle like a go-cart. Ive been bldg hondas for 12yrs+ n these r all my own personal preferences, every1s will differ but i hope this helps
You would probably be perfectly happy with a 4th-5th gen with a B swap. You could also keep the D motor with bolt ons and a tune, then you'd have some extra money to focus on the handling. It all depends on your budget and goals, which you need to figure out before jumping in. I'm guessing this isn't going to be a DD since you have a Mazda6
if youre going to focus on suspension dont short change yourself by getting springs, coilovers are definitely your best bet. welcome to both of us. although ive been trolling for months.

Thanks everyone! I appreciate the specifics @efhatchbackracer. This is my first Honda and since it won't be a dd I'm not too concerned about the noise. Although if it gets too loud I may throw down some dyna mat or similar product. I'm pretty set on no back seat.
My first priority is to find a running hatch with a decent body. Which is not always easy in the rust belt!
