Default y7 head on a d15, confusing problem

Im trying to put a y7 head on a d15 block. my car is a daily driver and i need to get it moving again, so on to the problem. I checked the height of the heads, both of which are the same, and the distance between the centerline of the cam and the deck, also the same. The cam gears are the same size and i swapped them just to make sure. After all this checking and rechecking i still cant figure out why the timing belt wont tighten with the tensioner maxed out. Any input is appreciated.

What timing belt are you using? The Y7 belt will be too long for this combination. The block height (deck height) of the D15 is shorter than the Y7 (D16).

We were using the d15b7 belt and it is too long. we put a y7 belt on it and it actually worked.

Are you positive you didn't mix up the belts? The D15 belt should not be longer than the D16 belt.

Yes it is.

Mcluskey, I ran the y7 head, d15 block setup for years. Z6/y7/z8 belt will work, but I prefer the d15z1 belt. Its a bit tighter. Good luck.

D15b7 belt is way loose.
