why do i live in cali
ok hears what i was told. This guy told me that a b-18c5 (type r) wouldn't pass the smog test in cali is that true and if it doesn't is there some way 2 get around that?

If the engine is from a earlier year car than the one that it is going into than it is legal. Example->2001 B18C5 into 1995 civic hatch=legal. 1995 B16a into a 2000 civic = illegal.

Not really understanding your question. If you're referring to completing a street legal swap, then your friends statement is false. A USDM B18C5 will pass just fine as long as all of the correct smog equipment (for that motor) is hooked up and working properly. The motor does need to be the same year as the car, or newer. It needs to be tested and registered w/the CA state referree. The testing is 35.00, certificate/sticker is 8.00, takes about 30 minutes. If for some reason you fail, the ref will give you a list of possible reasons, and allow you to reschedule.

that is pretty much the way i kno it to be as well... oh and yea, you have to have all the original emissions equipment on the car... the guys at the ref will have a database of all cars n wat emissions equipment comes stock on the car and will look for them in their visual inspection.
