What head to use for an LS/vtec?
I'm in the process of building an turbo LS/Vtec and I'm jus wonderig what head is the best to use B16 or GSR? I'm getting mixed oponions and was just wonder what you guys thought. Lemme know.

my opinion... b16 baby... all the way.
do some research and you'll find out that the Si head has a bit bigger airflow than the GSR.
i understand that LsVtec dont last long, so i suggest that if you are goin to go turbo to put a stroker kit.
good luck

Bullshit, dont talk about things you have no clue about.
Gsr head for your application would be perfect, tiny bump in compression and gsr cams are excellent for boost.
The longevity of a motor depends on several things, lsvtec motors that are built properly will run fine and be reliable depending on that factor.
put a stroker kit on it? wtf are you talking about.

yes sir,+1 saying that an lsvtec wont last long is just a dumbass comment...a guy from around here put 90k miles on his before he decided to part ways w/ it..so dont say that it wont last b/c of "rod/stroke ratio" or something else just as ignorant

basically its become just an either or think on which head to choose of the two...the gsr cames i believe are better for turbo etc., but either way you go theyre both going to make great power and they have their advantages
The Gsr head has a smaller combustion chamber which results in higher compression.
The b16 has slightly better flow characteristics.. When I had a lsvtec I ran the GSR head. The gsr head was decked with ctr cams. and a bottom end with ctr pistons the car was pretty darn fast in my opinion.. at least for an all motor set up.

aight.. i aint here to brag about how much i know or i dont know... this nuckle head was askin for a opinion, just like everyone else this is what forums are for. vtecsir dont tell me not to talk about things i dont know cuz if you really know what you are talkin about you should know that a LS or CRV block are not meant to rev high.. thats why i suggested to change out the bottom end, if i suggested the Si b16 head you should know that it tops out at 9grand RPM and the LS bottom end is not meant for that high revs. i could of not been so knowledgable about the compression and cams profile and all that **** about the GSR or Si head but that dosent mean you should be puttin others opinion on the floor. as a matter of fact im from Orlando Florida myself but i'm stationed in VA for now, if you think you are so much of a tunner or a baddass i'll be coming down there for Xmas i'll see you in the car meet by Sports Authority or by the fridays.
i personally dont need your opinion to this reply so you can either keep doggin some one you dont know here, or role on and keep helping people who have no idea what to do with their cars, and thats why they come here to get help and opinions. i dont use this forums to give opinions only, i am like everyone else who ask questions..........

ha the person in need of answers owned you lol, well yes the STOCK crv/LS blocks are not meant to be revved that high, duh, no ****, can we move on b/c thats usually the first thing every one learns about STOCK ls vtecs..but the thing is, is that he is putting together a BUILT engine and with new rods and strong rod bolts('B18B turbo' sold me brand new Eagle Rods w/ ARP 2000 rod bolts for 307 highly recommended) you will be find on revving to higher rpm's and new pistons also will be a great help...good luck sir

im just gonna throw my 2 cents in as an "opinion" not as an answer.
i have an ls/vtec, with a gsr head.
stock ls crank (but balanced & miroposlished)
stock ls rods (balanced and shot pined)
stock jdm itr pistons (notched and balanced)
i rev to 9200 rpms, and the occasional 10k miss shift (at the track)
i drive my car 60 miles everyday. and its only an ls bottom end......hmmm an ls not being able to rev to 9k?? i see it every morning on my way to work. so maybe ur not knowledgeable about ls/vtecs. maybe you shouldnt be giving opinions. thas just my "opinion"

Wow you sure know what you are talking about! Whoah you meet at Sports Authority with the ricer crew and then street race your 17 sec Civic at Americana!
in my opinion i like the gsr head...just because it'll bump compression a little (if you're staying allmotor)...also i like it because of how the intake runners are designed.
i personally really like the GSR head. Ive always used them on my turbo motors with great luck. Of coruse ive seen b16 heads put down huge power.
With respect to valvetrain, Ferrea valve springs/retainers/valves/keepers are pretty much the best, with manley a close second.
i had 50k miles on my last motor (drove from NJ to florida, back to NJ, to az, to cali many times, to colorado) and it was making 500+ whp on stock sleeves. i beat the crap out of it daily and it never had a problem. LS/Vtecs make so much more power than the small stroke motors it makes so much sense.

Yea I think I'am leaning more towards a GSR head for my set up. I was also looking at Ferrea valvetrain components like you were saying. Good stuff
I know where I can buy there valves but I dont know who sells the rest of there valve train components. Can anyone help me out?
I'm getting ready to start my LS/VTEC project this winter.. I'm doing a mild build (port/polish, retainers, springs, .25 bore and CTR pistion) which would be better? I'm guessin the GSR but some of the stuff in this thread is contradicting what i've read elsewhere.
