Went to performance shop today
I went to 1320 today, a performance shop in NJ, and they tell me that in order to do my b16a swap on my 94 civic dx, that i will need the whole swap and not just the motor, mounts, tranny, and ecu. He told me that I need axels and all that other ****. I have heard that I dont need all that ****, do I? But I can get the whole thing done and installed for $3000, is that a good deal? So any help on the above two questions would be great
yep you need axles, shift linkage....
$3000 for complete swap in...huh...that must be the 1st generation of b16a.
I say get the 2gen and swap yourself with the help of few friends.

What is the diff between the two, 2nd gen and first gen? Also how hard would it be, I know about cars, but i can't say im a skilled mechanic. And how long would it take. Thanks again for your help

theres lots of differences...
for starter,
1st gen make 160hp and is a cable tranny...plus more do a search.
2nd is rated 170hp and is hydro tranny like the one came in your car..plus it an OBD1 so you dont ran into too much electrical problem after swap.
Do a search on this topic,...b16a sir1 VS. b16a sir2. it's been cover too many times.

How much better is a b18c, I am looking to go turbo in the future. And I have heard that b series aren't to great of turbo motors. But i have heard that d series are good. So how hard and how long would all these swaps take. And I prolly wont be able to respond because I recently signed up so that damn limiter...... alright well thanks for the opinions and helpful info, more is allways appreciated.

you're wrong the B-series is better for turbo, because of the advantage of DOHC cams and make more HP to begin with.
My first swap...I spend 3 day with like 3-4hr each night.
It is so easy and so fun at the same time. Its a straight forward swap,..meaning take the old out put the new in
You need all the required part so it a plug and play though. Just do a search on this topic...because you need all the references.

a turboed d will put out 200whp at the most. stock internals cant handle that much boost. ive seen turboed b's put out more than 400hp on a daily driver
if you are on a budget and are going turbo for sure and can't afford a b18c go with the b18b (ls) swap.
BTW the swap is pretty easy as long as you have everything. If you are ok at working with cars and stuff and can pull your motor out you can put the swap in. It's a direct bolt up in your car. Buy a helms manual though for reassurance and use it to look up anything you are not sure about when installing/removing.

i have seen a turboed d series put over 250 to the wheels with stock internals and a fuel system but personally i would go with a dual cam platform because it does have more power potential
i swapped a 2nd gen b16a into my eg and i'm no mechanical genious either. i had never done a swap before. i did it pretty much by myself. there are plenty of how too treads. i got my b16 for $2250 from http://www.hmotorsonline.com.
The swap itself is not that bad. I didn't have any experience swapping engines before I did mine. All you need to do is research it a lot. Make sure you know everu aspect about the swap. Also ask people who have already done it, their experience...what they would have done differently. It's really fun to do yourself, plus you save a lot of money by doing it yourself.

Don't speak if you don't know. Someone on the board (can't remember his name) put down 300 whp stock block. D series sleeves are good til around 400 whp I'd say. The weak link are the rods. Also, I wouldn't go to 1320 I've heard bad things about them. Check out Stage2 perfomance on Route 1 in North Brunswick. Good bunch of guys

bottom line is you can get more hp reliably w/ a b-series motor over a d-series motor.
Here's what I would look at:
1) how much power I want
2) how much money I have to get the power I want
3) is it possible?
4) what set up I can get to achieve the power I want w/ my money and the most still have a reliable motor because I know I won't have money to build a new set up again anytime soon.
Good luck!

What kind of the b18c do I want then, I have heard of a b18c1, but all i can find is a b18c type r. Is that the same thing? and is around $4500 good for a complete swap, that is with rotors and shocks and everything?
