Default vtec oil line

I was wondering when you tap the head for the oil line from the engine block to engage the vtec on LS/vtec conversions, is there still a need to use the solenoid to engage vtec? Or does it now rely on oil pressure to engage vtec without a vtec solenoid.

You need to tap the back of the VTEC head for the oil line.

On a side note B20C5 = sleaved ITR engine with 84mm pistons. not CRVTEC.

Sorry, just had to vent.

Call it what it is, CRVTEC or Frankenstein

No, what I'm currently building up is a b20b w/an ITR head. It's being destroked and will soon be turbocharged, but yeah I need to know if the head is tapped for the vtec oil line- does it still require a solenoid to engage it?

How do you think the VTEC is engaged? No solenoid = no VTEC.

You're destroking the engine? Why? Waste of money if you ask me.......

You're building the motor and you don't even know? ANYWAY you don't need to tap the head, just put a metric fitting up in the solinoid. Also do yourself a favor and buy yourself a damn HELMS manual, helminc.com you will be so amazed what a little reading can do. Also vtec is engaged via a solinoid which USUALLY has a coil like most which means that its done electrically. The solinoid opens the oil galery up and forces the piston over. anyway im done. If you need the RIGHT nearly impossible fittings to find for your block, head, and stock oil pressure sensor, email me and i will sell you those three they ARE METRIC not NPT. NPT WILL fit but will be loose and on an engine running somewhere near 90psi oil pressure and high vibrations i dunno about you but i want those threads as close as possible. Also if you need the entire oil line I can get that for you and assemble it. I can get it for an additional external oil pressure guage or just the factory sender. The price isn't cheap because they are high quality stainless steel hoses, brass and aluminum fittings/adaptors. Let me know via email.

Sorry, I didn't mean TAP the head (drill hole and tap) I meant remove metric plug on the back of the head and install fitting to feed oil to the VTEC solenoid.

Sorry for the confusion.

Stizzti is right. Buy a HELMS

I have a helms for the CRV and the ITR, but they dont tell you how to convert a non-vtec into a vtec. I understand how the solenoid works and how it activates the rockers on the vtec lobe. I just didnt know how to hook up lines from the block to the head/or solenoid. In anyway- thanks for the info.
