which tranny for b20
alrite well i am going to be running a straight b20 in my 98 hatchback but i have had a lot of misinformation on which tranny to run, this engine will be a straight b20 with no vtec (at least for now) no turbo....i had my mind made up on using the gsr tranny however i got some information on using a b16 tranny also, reason i did want to run the b16 is because i do not want to be reving high on the freeway (this is my daily driver).......this being......what tranny would be good for running a straight all motor b20 for a daily drivin hatchback?
Really if you are keeping it nonVTEC then just use an LS tranny.... If you are planning on CRVTEC anytime soon then go with GSR or B16... For right now those are really short gears for you and you'll top out really easy... My friend has his 96 hatch with a CRVTEC bored .50mm over with 12.5:1 JE pistons, stock rods, Portflow GSR head, CTR intake cam, SK2 manifold, RC 310's, ITR ECU with VAFC... His best is a 12.62@107 full interior... He's running a 2000 Si tranny with Quaife LSD and M&H 22x9.5x13 slicks on Bogart Pro 4's.. Latez
if you're concerned about high revs on the highway, LS or GSR are your best option. i don't do a lot of highway driving, i have a Y1 on my b20..revs are at about 3500 at 65 mph..and i love it.

If I was in your shoes...
I would get the b16a tranny w/ a GSR 5th gear.
If you didnt want to mess w/ gearing... I would go w/ the GSR tranny.
Ls tranny= not good for what you want, except maybe 2 mpg on cruising
GSR tranny= Ok acceleration, better for higher hp & Tq(180-200)
B16 tranny= Good acceleration & fun, but 5th gear sux for cruising
