RX7 + F20C
Finally started making some progress on this thing so I figure I'd get a build thread going to keep the good times recorded for posterity. As far as I know I'm the second person to attempt this, and the first car never moved, always a great idea. WHATEVER.

This is me a lifetime ago in my 240SX, parting this car out was the worst decision I ever made.

Built this thing, it worked pretty alright, but it cost way too much money and by then I'd started my own shop and didn't have time/inclination to use it, so I parted it out.
Which brings us to this thing, I bought on a whim to have a cheap/simple mostly built car, and I thought rotaries sounded cool for about a month or so.

Rapid fire put a PFC, 3582R and a front mount on it and took it to get tuned. Feel like Steve Kan was phoning it in, he blames BDC, I blame the boost reference being on the wrong port and cracking a seal.
but I went and finished it off at a drift event anyway, Where I found out that the revlimiter wasn't set. or was set at 8600rpm anyway.

So I move to Portland, talk to Rob at Pineapple a few times, decide the rotary isn't for me and start looking for different options. I've never seen an LSx perform well drifting for my budget, I love the sound/feel of turbo motors, I grew up drifting big turbo idiot cars so I'm ok with how to manage crap powerbands, and I've always thought Honda motors do a lot with what they have, so...

bam, got banned on RX7club the day I put a deposit on it coincidentally.
Stripped out as much as I could in my garage, its been about 5 years since I've worked on a car without my own shop, I don't know how people do it. it sucks. I still need to find an engine hoist in portland since I didn't have space for mine in the move.

You'll notice that engine bay is a pile of ****. So I got my personal welders setup in my garage by hijacking the dryer outlet and got to work shaving everything I can.

Really forgot how much work a shaved engine bay is, but I'm working left to right.
So, not too much progress, but current plans are.
Shaved engine bay.
Notch firewall to move the motor back
remove all that bracing on the front for clean V-mount setup
ITR white engine bay.
Haltech Platinum Plug In
Competition Push Twin
Build a Twinscroll Manifold for either a GT3794 or GT3586
Bell Core Radiator/Intercooler
ect ect ect. I haven't decided what this thing is for, if its an idiot car I'm shooting for 800whp, if its a drift car maybe 500 or so.

more progress. all metal, haven't added any filler yet, haven't decided if I will.
took that seam out in the ball park of where I think it will matter. gotta make some motor mounts to see if I'll have to move the firewall, but my ghetto measurements are telling me to check back later.

New clutch came in. 850hp rating gotta mod the timing cover, replace the tensioner/chain/guide and then toss the motor in to start making mounts.

first time testing it out. Its about where its going to end up, but probably 3in higher and rocked a bit forward.
Looks like the firewall will get to live to fight another day. Sub frame on the other hand is going to get some DOM tubing between the rack mounts that moves it underneath the steering rack. It'd be nice to get a non power rack to give it a hair more room, but probably unnecessary.

Subframe modded, 1.5in x.120 tube moved up parallel with the front seam on the stock cross member to give the oil pan some to drop down.
And finished painting/shaving/wiping engine bay Sunday. Motor mounts to come soon.

As far as I can tell they caught my IP from trolling them a whole hell of a lot back in like 2006.
V160 would be ok, but I'll prolly save for a PAR/Frana/PPG set eventually.

Stock trans for now, was gonna get a local driveshaft made, but will prolly just have DSS make me a custom Aluminum one.
Gold foil, custom brake lines, double line lock, ect.

Working on motormounts on my inpromptu weld table.

Just keeping everyone posted about how I never want to drive again and I'm terrible at moderation.

Out of money, so installing things I've had floating around for a while, hoping maybe to get the clutch and fresh timing stuff in this weekend

Going slow with this, gotta grab some tighter radius's to finish the fourth runner, and a tight radius 2.25 to get the turbo on. Then turbo crane.

Trimmed down the airpump flange and sealed it up. then I guess i took off the IACV? thats probably what it was. Whatever, it looked stupid.

Baby steps, ETS core, that thinwall manifold is probably gonna go in the parts pile, I'm kinda over it, not turning out how I want and the shorter collector to fix it is double materials to build a regular one.
Probably buy parts for that in the next few weeks, get this V-mount mounted and piping made.
whole bunch of updates.
