racecar wiring
I put a first gen type-r in my 97 civic dx. The car has afull rollcage, and custom steering column, so I'm trying to get rid of the factory fuse boxes, but supply power to the components that need it(pgmfi and the ecu) I'm deep into it, and can't get a helms maual in time to complete my swap. I was wondering if there were any contacts that knew where I could get good, accurate wiring diagrams+info for the ek civic, or info related to this subject. thanks!
Are you running stand alone engine management?
If you are still using the OEM ECU then leave it all alone and run it like you're suppose to.
Don't remove the fuse box.

Wait for the Helms to come. You can strip the harness down to what you need but
I would recommend keeping the factory fuse box. Remove the wiring you do not need from it. If you have tossed the dash sand are not running lights then I would move under hood fusebox inside and rewire leftover wiring from dash fusebox to it.
Wiring is very time consuming and takes planning. You should not attempt anything of this caliber without the Helms service and ETM manuals.

the major reason I'm removing the extra wiring is pure cleanliness. being that I have certain quality standards about my own work and a hatred for usless clutter, I would much rather know what every wire in my car does than just accept the fact that it's there, and it does something. this may sound wierd to some people, but it's just how I work. organization+knoledge=less downtime at the track and a happy mechdriver. I think I will wait until the helms manual comes in, and just complete every other task on the car I can until it comes in. by the way, If I was that **** about weight, I this would be the wrong chassis for me! Thanks to everyone who responded!

the steering column is "custom" due to the fact that it is an integral part of the rollcage, and it lacks frills like a key cylinder, tilt, etc. I plan on running one brakelight, and that's it. A first generation type-r from japan has a different final drive in the transmission (taller) than the second gen, and I'm not really sure what else. If anyone knows, please tell me!
Well, i tend to agree, for instance, that dude bly gravlee from Alabama with the S2000 with the rerouted wiring harness, yeah, it does look neat.
But I can't help but think, if the wires are all hidden and redone, or the harness has been messed with, don't you think the "downtime" at the track will be wayyyy more involved trying to find which whacked wire has grounded out and fried your ecu?
It actually sounds like a neat idea, not hating, just throwing in my .02.

Okay I know what you're talking about now, but you're using incorrect terminology which may confuse people.
What do I mean?
The term "first-gen" is usually only referred to when talking about pre-OBD B16A engines. These came in the "EF" Civics and CR-Xs in Japan and are ideal swaps for the 1988-1991 Civic and CR-X here in the U.S. They are commonly referred to as "first-gen" so that's why I was asking you what a "first-gen" Type R engine was.
I thought you were trying to say you had a pre-OBD Type R engine.
What you have is commonly referred to as a "96' Spec" or "pre 98' Spec."
The 96' Spec has a 4.400 final drive transmission and also has a shorter 4th and 5th gear than the 98' Spec ITR tranny.
Also the 98' Spec ITR engines came with a 4-1 tubular header as oppsed to a cast-iron exhaust manifold from the factory.
Some say that the last year of the JDM R engine also got a revised intake cam much like our USDM 00-01 Type R B18C5 engines did. It is supposed to be the same profile as the CTR intake cam that is so highly coveted.
Hearing you expound upon your intentions did help me understand that you aren't some kid just trying to be blinging for shows and just making **** up to impress people.
Good luck to you, and I hope you find all the info in the Helm's Manual.
Do they offer the Electrical suppliments?

I know what you mean about wiring. I am redoing it all minus everything not absoulutely neccessary to run the car.
I would not recommend hiding the wires simply cleaning up the install.
Your whole race weekend can be f'd by a broken ground during a minor off course excursion
