Parts compatibility
I have a 00 civic, the car has a 97 jdm b18c with gsr trans. I didn’t do the swap, really still trying to figure out the details of the swap. Don’t know what ecu was used. My question is, when this swap was done would one have to swap hubs/control arms and things of that nature??? My point is, I’m not sure what to look for when looking for parts. I know I’m using 97 teg axels, but would I need to buy hubs knuckles or brakes for a teg, or civic??? Also how can I tell if the motor is type r?? I know everyone is going to say search, well where I live cell service is almost non existent so I can’t spend time searching because I can barley send txt messages. Thanks for any and all help
The JDM B18C Spec R engine will have a "30" cast into the top edge of the head between the cam caps near the VTEC assembly and Distributor. The upper radiator hose neck location on the head will also give you an idea as to what you have: The Spec R has a neck that angles about 45' toward the front of the car and is located at the rear right corner of the head close to the thermostat housing. The GSR or Spec G neck points straight toward the right fender and is located at the front right corner of the cylinder head.
Now, just because you are confident that you have the "30" Type PR3 head casting, this does NOT guarantee that you have an ITR engine. The camshaft markings on the distributor end rings of the cams, the valve spring type and color markings, the intake valves, and the hand porting of the short turn in the runners all have to be investigated to be sure... and this means dis-assembling the cylinder head. Otherwise, it is possible that you have a GSR bottom end and a B16A cylinder head on top with a red valve cover... with the seller claiming it to be a Spec R.
