Newbie looking for suggestions...
My car is a '95 Civic 4dr (1.5L SOHC, I think it's D15B?), auto tranny....
I "inherited" this car from a family member right when I was about to buy a nice, new car (probably impreza wrx). So, I would like to look into my options on having fun with this one instead. I haven't done much work on cars (esp. engine work) but would like suggestions on an engine/tranny swap...
Of course, the faster the better... but availability (chances of being able to get it put in for me.. this is my only car, and can't go carless for more than a couple days), cost, and compatibility are my concerns.
Any suggestions offered up will be appreciated.... keep in mind I'm new to this, so if you don't act like you're talking to a newbie, I'll probably be responding with a "huh?" or "what's _____?"

Well, the bad news is that the D15 is a pretty weak motor, not much for it in terms of performance. Maybe a turbo kit... but why ? heh heh... The cheapest, simplest swap would prolly be a D16 (Ex) motor, but you will need to have vtec wired into the car and get a p28 or similar ECU to run that motor. You local 'swap shop' should be able to get that done in 2 days. You'll upgrade to a 127 hp motor that can move the 4dr (which is actually pretty light) with some pep.
Another option is the DOHC (integra motor) swap of a B18B/A (non vtecs) or B18C's (vtecs). A nonvtec B series swap will be relatively cheap and straight forward as well, giving you 140-142 hp and good tq for your car. A Bseries vtec swap will run you into some money for the extra 30 hp over the nonvtecs.
If you have some flow to spend, you can go with a turbo Single cam (D16) motor and put in forged internals for not much of an investment. With the right prices and deals, you could prolly put together a nasty setup for about $4K built with turbo or less with less boost on a stock single cam turbo (both w/ fuel mgt) Single cams are a dime a dozen, so initial investment will be cheep and you can build the motor (if you choose to) outside of the car while you have the D15 for daily duty.
Damn noobs... heh heh...
