Go with the LS and get vtec added later. Look at this link on found on another post here,

I would do that, if you really cant decide, then get the B16. If you still want more later, you can add a LS block to that head. When you build a LS/VTEC you ade taking a VTEC swap and putting an LS block on to, all the other engine accessories (i.e. power steering, a/c) has to cater to the head, not the block. Get the B16, you can always upgrade later. If you do do an LS/VTEC later, you can get the LS block, have all the machine work done, then take like a whole day with some friends and swap the blocks, your set for a quick *** car.

id go with a ls motor....im not to fond of b16's....most b16's i think have realy high mileage and i dont trust them.... plus 1.6 liters is to little displacement for me

go with the b16a.i've heard that 4th gen civic/crx's have a clearance problem with the 1.8ltr engines. but that is only what i heard so i'm not sure.that is a good idea to get the b16a and if you want more later get a turbo or ls block (i'm not a big fan of the ls/v-tec)

If u want torque, get a B20Vtec Motor. Its roughly the same size and weight as the B18..u'll have DOHC VTEC power, and displacement for torque.
