Default LS/VTEC dyno discussion...

With 229 peak hp this dyno caught my eye. I found this on importreview. http://www.importreview.com/d_1.8.html Does anyone know what head was used? Or anymore information about this build up. TIA!

I don't know... but torque seems pretty low.... I wonder what compression pistons are being used....

I think this Dyno looks much better...

please tell me why the second chart is better. that motor made less hp and less torque. i also think 143ft lbs is pretty good for an ls vtec.

I agree the numbers are pretty good, but the 2nd setup made almost the same torque with 42 less HP....
2nd setup included:
Civic Type-R pistons, stock rods
B16A head, slight port/polish from Portflow
Type-R intake manifold
Iceman Race intake
Civic Type-R intake cam.
Integra Type-R exhaust cam.
DC Header, full exhaust.

I would go with the 2nd setup over the first....

That's just my .02 cents...

Just because they used ross pistons and eagle rods has nothing to do w/ performance it is more for a reliability factor you have to see what compression is used on this motor at almost 40 hp more i would take the 40hp rather than the second setup any day. Sorry but why would you take less power just cause it cost less you dont go fast cause it cost less.

oh and reason for similar torque figures could also relate to bigger cams w/ first motor similar displacment as well

You also have to take into consideration the 1st setup has a higher revlimit.... and also tuning is involved....

Actually, rev limiter has nothing to do with it. The 1st chart made power beyond 8k rpms. Peaked @ 8.5k. The 2nd chart leveled off @ 7.5k. Those big aftermarket cams really make a difference.

Don't get me wrong, the OEM stuff looks like it can produce some good numbers too...especially considering it's OEM. But I would definitely choose the 1st setup based on it's extended powerband. Remember: For N/A Honda applications, rpms are your friend!

Actually, RPMs are your friends in any application if you are talking peak power. Look at the 1500 hp indy engines from the 80s. 1.5 liter >13k rpm. Crazy stuff.

Edit: BTW do you like the exhaust?

Glad I could help, err, reply completely off topic...
