Default LS or GSR?

I know this question is stupid but I can't decide whether I want a ls or gsr swap... I kinda want to turbo it in the future... I have the money for the ls now or I can wait for the gsr. Im leaning towards the ls right now because I don't really want vtec right now (yeah, its stupid but all my friends are all about it, VTEC this VTEC that...) and I eventually want to turbo... if I do the ls I could always just do vtec later if I want to... Im not looking for SERIOUS power but enough to push me into the low 14s (not necessarily right now though)... Please help me decide...

btw, if it really matters I want the motor to be 1997+...

I say save up for the GSR, it's an all around great motor. With just the GSR swap, you should have no problem running low 14's with bolts-ons and some good driving. Not to mention the GSR also responds well to turbo's. The compression isn't too high, you can run pump gas and put down some nice #'s with a low 6-8 psi on the street.

I have a b18b in my car, and I love it. My car civic coupe can beat a integra gsr and most hybrid gsr's until third gear, plus the b18b loves turbo and is much cheaper. my .02

i have had both b18b swap and b18c swap, if you boost or spray the b18b youll love it. if you plan on staying motor for a while get a b18c

Its really kind of a toss-up, depends what you want to do. I am into autox and am looking more towards a B18B, due to the torque factor. Plus its like 3 grand cheaper =P

But the GSR is sure tempting, they are just kinda hard to get a hold of.

man listen to me, u have a Civic coupe I presume, just slap the GSR swap in that bitch cause with that motor, and ur body weight u'll be just fine, 14's with that swap all the way or either u could go with my former plan get a k20 and see 13's from what I hear u could see 13's I dont know if thats true or not, but b18c all the way I had it and loved it till it got wrecked even tho the b18 is cheaper and a LS/VTEC wouldnt cost that much, but its ur call.

WTF did you say? learn how to use a period(.)

i would say go with the b18b if you are going to turbo. That is exactly what I did. I have had the strait b18b for about a year and am just putting on the turbo

b18b turbo = gsr ( in price)

b18b turbo owns gsr (performance)

b18b turbo

sure the b18b will get you where you want to be quicker...b/c it's cheaper and you can already be boosting by the time you could get a gsr. but on the other hand, the b18c will give you wet dreams(these dreams are made of VTEC of course ) and if you want you can boost on the gsr...it will take longer but you'll come out on top with the b18c in the end

LS block with a VTEC head, then boost. You'll be happy.

B18C5 is my ideal though; credability and reliability.

I'd get the gsr. I have one in my coupe and driving that and then driving a ls is a dissapointment.

I really like the B18B with B18C VTEC head swap. You get the best of both worlds, low rmp torque and high rmp hp. This combo really loves boost in the 6-12 psi range, and depending on your compression, it will use 92-octane gas for below 14's. Hope this helps!

If you did get a GSR at least you could get a Vtec Controller or whatever it is, and tune a little more hp out of your engine, by the way, nice avatar

I'm with you man. Vtec is too expensive for what you get. You can find a Ls for around $1200 and a Gsr is about $3500 if your lucky. The swap will give you the ideal tranny for turbo and you will have over 2 grand for turbo. So for about the same price you can have a stock Gsr running mid 15's or a Ls running mid-low 14's. Personaly its an easy decision for me.

oo i almost forgot, if you want better acceleration if you choose the B18B route, a B16 tranny is prime, but highway driving will be a bitch, you will be around 4500rpm at like 50 mph, just so your warned, but my friend had a B18 with a B16 tranny, nothing extra and it was damn fast

well **** for all the money your gonna spend on an Ls turbo or a Gsr or whatever, just do a H22 swap, and I dont want to hear that "you can get a ls for 1200$" crap, if you get a ls for 1200$ then theres something missing/wrong with it, so 2200 for an ls from hmotorsonline, then maybe about 2000 to turbo it, and you wanna do 14's? just do a H22 and you will run like 13's, minor boltons and such and you can maybe dip into the 12's, if your a good driver and of course if you got slicks

I say B18b, with the money you spend on that GSR you could have already rebuilt the B18b and turbocharged it.
