JDM D16A swap - lots of questions
I have a 2000 DX. I just ordered a JDM d16a to put in it. The motor that's in it is a d16y8 with a blown head gasket that my son straight up cooked by driving it 45 miles after the gasket blew. From what I can tell the y8 was not a factory option so I am guessing someone swapped that in before he bought it.
First question - the d16a I bought comes with the ecu harness and ecu. The car has a manual trans and this I'm 90% sure is out of an auto. I know that an auto ecu can be converted to manual by de-soldering some stuff etc. I will look in to that more later. How can I tell if its obd2a or obd2b? The listing says its for 96 to 00. The ecu # is 37820-PEM-901
Next question - from what I understand the d16a doesn't use a crank sensor. If I use the auto ecu that came with it, do I still need to put the cps from the d16y8 that is currently in the car into the d16a?
next question - I was told that i would need to "use the gear behind the crank pulley from the d16y8". I am guessing that they meant the timing gear and thats associated with the crank sensor. Is that accurate?
next question - I was told that I would need to use the "pick up tube" off the y8. Any idea what that is referring to?
is there anything else that I should be aware of getting in to this?

Any updates on this? I bought a 99 civic ex coupe and it came with the d16a vtec, and it struggles until it hits higher rpms. Especially uphill. I seen that it could be many things can anyone help?
