jdm d15b need advice
im thinkin of doin a swap, im short on cash and i want more power than my oil burning dx motor. im been lookin at the jdm d15b with 130hp. i can get it for 500. i was wondering if there is any difference between that and the d16z6. i know the d15b is a 1.5 and the z6 is a 1.6 but other than that is there any differences. what u think i should go with. thez6 is like a $100 more. also how much faster u think my 92 dx hatch would be with this motor ( plus the intake and exhaust and no cat thats on there now).
My friend and I are dropping in b18's next week and we decided to race against each other before the swaps.
He bought my 95 Dx which has an iceman intake 2.5 in. exhaust, fresh everything, suspension set-up
and I just bought a 93 Si thats currently bone stock.
We raced till we hit about 80 and I pulled him (BTW I have raced quite a bit and this was his first although he knows how to shift well etc.) But not by much. I would get him off the line but at the top of every gear he would slighty pull me.
It ended up me beating him by a little more than a car length. I always thought however that the Dx motor in that car ran freakishly well.
If you think that you might be going turbo down the road either engine aint bad for the price.
Both motors will require a p28 or equivalent ecu and some extra wiring.
Believe it or not I was going to go with the d15b and then a b16 and then b16b and finally went crazy and just got a b18c itr motor.
Dont look for neck snapping performance from the D motors but they are kinda peppy.

I almost bought a jdm d15b 6 months ago, but a jdm b18c is going in my cx next week.
Anyway, I think the d15b is an excellent choice. It's pretty much a vx block with a z6 head. The factory cam is pretty wild - that's where the horsepower difference is made up between the 1.5 and 1.6. Also, some jdm d15b's came w/ factory lsd. Try and find one of those. Sometimes hmotorsonline gets them (they only cost a couple hundred more). I would guess that this motor in your dx with your mods could hit mid 15's pretty easy. Maybe even low 15's with a little weight reduction. Sohc vtec's in cx/vx hatch's pretty much stock can hit low 15's. If you're swapping, be different and get the jdm d15b. Another alternative is to build your d15b7. Go here

for the d series experts. Mista Bone tuned 118 whp out of his bolt on d15b7. There was a guy also with a d15b7 w/ bolt ons, si/ex tranny, and crx si cam and hit like 15.5. For a cheap upgrade on your motor the crx si cam will work. Also, the exospeed sr909 cam would be a good upgrade - check it out - http://www.exospeed.com. Hope this helps.
