Default H22a cx update

Ok I have had my swap in since December. After working most of the bugs out, everything has been running very well and strong now for the past couple months.
Now my car is perfect example of a stock jdm h22a swap into a civic and what it runs. Here is my setup:

94 jdm h22a (motor has over 50k)
92 civic cx
m2b4 lsd tranny (lsd ownz!!)
stock clutch/flywheel
2.5" custom mandrel bent exhaust w/ 2.5" carsound cat
AEM 3" itr cai
stock jdm exhaust manifold
hondata intake manifold gasket
walbro 255lph fuel pump
stock jdm p13 ecu

That's it. I dynoed it at import builders dyno day a few weekends ago. Here is the dyno graph:

172 whp
143 tq

Jeff @ IM told me that my motor was running strong for what it was. I know I have seen some stock h22 guys put up better numbers, but I was happy with what I put down. I was expecting to be all dissapointed and put down 160 something. With the fuel pump in my fuel pressure is pretty high right now. It's at 50 with the car at idle WITH the vacuum like connected. I gotta get a regulator to turn the fuel pressure down, but could this high of fuel pressure(ie running rich) hurt my performance and numbers at all?

Anyways...after getting the car dynoed I took it to Fontana this weekend. I ran all saturday and got 8 runs in. That was alot of fun. I ran consistant 14.1's with 2.2 60' times. I wanted into the 13's sooo bad. It just didn't happen though. Here is my best run:

R/T ... .770
60' ... 2.206
330 ... 5.974
1/8 ... 9.062
MPH ... 79.87
1000 ... 11.732
1/4 ... 14.010
MPH ... 98.08

My best 60' time was a 2.168 where i ran a 14.105 @ 97.44 mph. For my last 4 runs I decided to try and run the car with my iabs open the whole time. After I did this my trap speeds went up from high 96s and 97s to 98. My fastest run was with the iabs open all the time, this was at the hottest point in the day too. My highest trap was 98.28. I was running on 205/50/15 azenis @ 24psi. All my runs were w/ full interior minus my spare tire and subs. I would launch at 4k feather the clutch alittle then step on it. I was shifting at 7.5k in every gear.

I know I've seen some people post about a BONE STOCK jdm h22a in a cx or vx hatch running like 13.8 or better, so I was kinda dissappointed that i couldn't break into the 13's. O well. I tried my best. This was my first time ever at a track and first time drag racing. It was pretty hot out.

So this is basically what a stock jdm h22a w/ intake and exhaust puts down and will run in a civic hatch. What do you guys think?

Next is a header, skunk2 manifold, p28 w/ hondata, and tuning. I just wanted to see in basically stock trim what a h22 hatch was capable of.

damn good times!

I KNOW you can break 13's. Seeing the dyno and the stock H22 cams PEAK at 6800 RPM's would getcha down the track just a tad bit faster, but with the stock P13 you want to be in vtec the whole time.

Get that P28 ASAP or at LEAST the Spoon chip so you can shift at 7000 and remain in vtec the whole time.

My friend Timmay on this board ran 13.6 with just JUN flywheel and ACT 6 puck (I believe), and this was at 4000 ft elavation in Boise, ID.

14 flat is really good for just intake and exhaust. much props man

Damn, that VTEC crossover must really kick in hard. That's quite a jump!

But I agree...work on the 60 fts. Put that LSD TO WORK!

very nice numbers

your car is easily a 13sec car...2.0 60's should be yours with street tires, just keep practicing....that should see you through 13.7/8's

That's basically what I ran my very first time out on the track with Nitto drag radials, but I had to drop the tire pressure down to 15 psi in order to break into the 13s, and was with still a 2.1 60' time, and launching at 4500 rpms and still spinning. In order to hook up and run consistent 13s (I eventually ran a best of 12.6 all motor, right off the Hotshot header w/Spoon P13) you'll want to run on some slicks. I ran on some 22x7x13 slicks with 13 psi and I was able to bet a cosistent 1.8-2.0 60' times..... that and make sure the rear is stiff (with either stiff spring/strut combo or w/cable straps compressing the springs) and slicks up front, you'll be hitting good 60' times and actually hooking up right off the line. With the H22, it takes some practice to get it down with launching since the damn thing likes to sping the wheels so much

I ran all summer long time around 14-14.3 at 100-102 mph with RA1
The last day of the season I decided to try something differente. I used race gaz unleaded with advance the timing + open header...... Wow I drop my time between 13.54 and 13.7 @ 102-104 mph
so H22a JDM + advance timing + race gaz + open headers =

The Vtec screaming was awesome and pull very hard when I came back of the track lol

The best time on my hatch with some 13 inch steels @20psi, half a tank with full interior with spare and jack, and the mods were stock header, comptech icebox, 2.5in exhuast with cat, p72 with base h22 program, quaife lsd and 255 walbro its a 98 jdm:

rec: 1.117
I1: 2.320
I2: 6.065
I3: 9.129
mph: 80.152
I4: 11.788
E.T: 14.053
mph: 99.931

I only ran it 3 times first was a 14.8, second 15.3 and 3rd was 14.05 all of the trap speed was 99mph. For the dyno I with the hotshot header installed I made 185.4 hp and 152.7tq, 1st run was 184hp and 156.4 torque and 2nd run was 184.2hp and 151.3 tq.

damn my motor must of been strong or im one hell of a driver. you guys should all be hitting 13's with h22a's and minor bolt ons, if i can do it at 2700+ ft weighing in at 2280 with open filer, exhaust and flywheel i never had a run that wasnt in the 13's using streets or slicks

What were your trap speeds? Just want to compare.

Damn and I thought 2.2 60' times with street tire were pretty good. I guess not.

Launching at 6k? Damn that's high. As soon as you grabbed traction did have you shift? I'll try that next time at the track. I was pretty scared about breaking my axles so far away from home, so I kinda took it easy on my launches.

Damn you guys launch high. I dynoed back in the day with 192 whp and 153 lb of torque. I hope I'm around 205-206 now with 160 or so lb of torque. The car runs consistent low 13's and with the right launch can break high 12's. The car is fully gutted and with only bolt ons. But with that elevation you are running some pretty good times. Practice on those launches and lower the tire pressure a little more and you'll be there. Good job and the set up sounds great.

I guess when it comes to quarter mile times, i'm not doing too bad.
Considering i have an EK chassis which is a little heavier than the EG.

What fuel pressure are you guys running at idle? and how are your vtec crossover points and rev limits? ... these are new areas for me.

I do like the Denso iridium plugs, anyone else tried them?

hahah another H22 civic (very old trend )

I have a friend who has a 93 civic si with the original engine but fully built and putting down 210 whp....the engine was stroked to 1.8, p&p, cams and everything..
I wish i can show his dyno here and change some of u people's mind who are jumping into the bandwagon swaps..

Why the amount he spent on upgrading that engine, he could have gotten a swap and bolt-ons.. Dont get me wrong to each his own. But there is nothing bad about swapping in a h22 nor b16/18 over a stock motor. Even if its built.

I have had my h22 swap over a year now. (Not one of the bandwagon boys).
I am pretty sure the car wouldnt have hit 13's with a stock b16.

Go hmotorsonline.com They might not have the lowest prices but the customer service seems to be great as told by the general consensus.

I would launch at 4k feather the clutch alittle then step on it. I was shifting at 7.5k in every gear.
May I suggest shifting at 7k instead of 7.5 rpm? If you look at your dyno, it takes a BIG drop from 7k to 7.5k. I also ASSUME (I might be wrong) that this should land you right back into your power band at 5k. Try it at least once and see how it works for you.

Those thousandths of a second on each shift can add up nice when you are running a 14.01 !
